. . .

She was the only person he cared about.

Dust had been sent on a mission by Nightmare to infiltrate a peaceful universe since the positive energy wouldn't allow him to do it himself. It was only meant to be a reconnaissance mission. Get in, gather information, get out. It was as simple as that.

Monsters roamed the surface there and lived beside humans with a treaty in place. The treaty was a compromise. So long as monsters didn't attack humans, humans wouldn't attack monsters, and vice versa. Nightmare wanted to change that and send the world into utter disarray. However, he wanted to do it stealthily.

Dust's objective was to find a human or monster that wasn't satisfied with the treaty. He would then provoke them to start an attack on the opposite species. The next events would occur without any traces to be lead back to the group. On his first day there, he wandered a city for hours trying to find someone, anyone. It was harder than it appeared.

The sun began setting when he arrived at the city center, a park. Dust collapsed onto a bench and cursed as he looked up to the sky. Not one. Not a single human nor monster held any grudges against the other. He gritted his teeth. He hated the idea of coming back empty handed. Why does no one else hold any bitterness? Why are they so happy together?

The deep barking of a dog brought him to his senses. He whipped his head around with a nasty glare set on his face. To his great surprise, he didn't really have to look down to meet the eye of the dog. It had to have been the tallest dog he had seen in his entire life, aside from monster dogs that is.

It continued to bark protectively at him as he followed it's leash to the owner that it was protecting. A young women with an apologetic look stood with the leash in her hand. She didn't seem sure as to what she was supposed to do. She looked around frantically for help as she tugged at the leash with all her might. The dog refused to budge.

Dust scoffed and begrudgingly stood up. He stepped away immediately to avoid a bite from the dog. The woman made a high pitched sound of distress as she fell to her knees and hugged her dog. She held on to her dog and tried to calm it. Eventually, it stopped its incessant barking and sat down, allowing her to coddle it. However, it continued to glare up at him. Dust glared right back.

The woman lifted her head to speak to him with a desperate expression. "I am so sorry, sir! He is very protective, and I'm not exactly strong enough to control him. Please forgive me!" She bowed her head down after apologizing, and Dust began to feel pity for this pathetic looking human.

"Stop groveling, would you? You're attracting unwanted attention." He said, bored as all get out. Other people and monsters in the park had begun to notice the scene, and he wasn't a big fan of attention. He had to stuff his hands in his pockets to prevent himself from mutilating a few of them.

The woman lifted her head up and sniffled. Dust's expression shifted a little bit in shock, but he quickly reverted back to a stoical look. Why is she crying? Pathetic. The dog whined a bit and nudged her with his nose, helping her to her feet. She wiped her eyes a bit before looking at Dust. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause any trouble for you." Her voice was small and genuine.

He rolled his eye lights and turned away from her. "Stop apologizing. It's getting annoying." As he began to walk away, she called out to him. "Wait! Let me do something to make it up to you!" Dust stopped in his tracks and looked over his shoulder at her. His expression was cold and threatening. "And how exactly do you plan on doing that?"
