Xiao POV

Damnit. A Ruin Machine, he was sure of it. He groaned. This was just excellent. Here he was, battle-injured, having used up his power reserves for those five Eclipse hilichurl and mitachurl tribes. And there it was, a Ruin Hunter, flying into the air. Whoever had activated the damned machine might face his wrath.

Hang on though. Who had activated it? Who would be stupid enough? Besides, wasn't this place deserted?

Placing a hand on a tree for support, as the voices in his mind grew louder and stronger, he looked around. And then he groaned again. The Traveller, Lumine her name was? Well, on the one occasion he failed to monitor her, she ended up activating a ruin hunter. Stupid, stupid mortal. Now standing in front of the Ruin Hunter with her hands on her hip, staring up at him. As it moved towards her with the clank-clank of machinery, she neatly leaped back out of reach. Then just as quickly, she leaped forward. A squeaky voice called out, "EEEEK!!! Whatever are you doing???!" The annoying Pixie.

The gleaming sword appeared in Lumine's hands, with which she slashed upwards. To just make a dent in its body. Again and again, doing nothing more than dents.

He couldnt just watch this anymore, he would have to jump in.  So he yelled out, "GET BACK, LUMINE!"

That was the mistake.

As Lumine turned, shocked, towards him, eyes as wide as saucers, the Ruin Hunter came whizzing towards her, its sharp blades zooming around it. She couldn't move out of the way in time. And got a slash in her stomach.

She gasped and doubled over, clutching her torso, where a large gash had appeared, quickly stained by red. He slapped a hand on his mouth. 'What had he done?' he thought. She wheezed, stumbling onto her knees. He struggled towards her, his karma growing by the minute. Hastily she ripped of some of her dress to bandage the wound, then quickly got up, only to duck as she dodged its array of missiles. Anger appeared in her eyes, as once again, she retreated to a distance. Or so he thought.

The weapon in her hand seemed to fizzle away, replaced by a bow. 'She knew how to use a bow?' As she pulled back the string, dodging the Hunter's attacks, an arrow appeared, in the bow, so clear that he might have missed it if not for the sunlight sparkling through it. Made of water? Within a second, the arrow shot towards the exposed core of the hunter, hitting its target with breathtaking precision. Both the hunter, and she staggered forward. She sent one last arrow towards it. Disabling the archon-damned machine.

All this while, Xiao had been watching the scene unfold with worry and horror in his eyes. But as it turned out, he had proved to be nothing but a distraction. A distraction. Since when had he ever been one?

The bow disappeared from her hands as she half-ran, half-stumbled towards him. Seeing Lumine, one of the mortals he had to protect, hurt, seemed to be worsening the fog in his brain. Despite that, he asked in a low voice, "Are you okay?"

Lumine POV

Was he crazy? Xiao looked like he might collapse any minute, and he was asking if she was okay?

Admittedly, she wasn't feeling so good herself, but as long as there was a waterbody nearby, she would be perfectly fine. That didn't hold out true for Xiao. But still, she couldn't heal herself in front of Xiao. She didn't want to reveal her secret. She had to do it alone. So, first, she had to heal Xiao. And then get him to go away.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, with a hint of anger. She would have been able to complete the commission completely unscathed if it wasn't for Xiao calling her out. "I could ask you the same thing," he retorted in the same angry tone. Huffing, she knelt down near him, and placed her hand on his forehead; he seemed to be sweating. He yelped and exclaimed, "Whatever in the name of the Archons are you doing!!!" Looking weirdly at him, she replied calmly, "I am healing you. No offense, but you look horrible." And to be honest, maybe a little unclear in the brain?

He humphed, as she had figured out was his habit. "You have absolutely no respect for the adepti. And do you really think that you, a mortal, can heal an adeptus? Not to mention, you don't look pretty good yourself." She simply rolled her eyes and said, "I'll be fine."

Sitting on her hunches, she let her power, her otherworldly magic flow through her hand to him, and watched as his wounds started closing up, the blood disappearing. She also saw the look of absolute shock on the Adeptus's face, which made her smirk. No doubt it wasnt everyday that, he had gotten a mortal hurt, himself hurt, watch the mortal destroy the enemy, then to add insult to injury, heal him.

"Wha- wha- what just happened?" Xiao asked, totally flabbergasted.

Snickering, she grinned. "I healed you, Mr. Vigilant Yaksha., Mr Conqueror of Demons."

Xiao POV

Never in his life had he been so embarrassed. This mysterious girl, had just healed him, all his wounds, everything. Even the voices in his head had disappeared. He was grateful to her. He had to be. And he was embarrassed that he was grateful. Embarrassed that he owed her his life, that he was in her debt.

Oblivious to the torrent of emotions and thoughts in him, she removed her hand from his forehead. He felt strangely cold without it. Slowly she said, "Now that you are healed, I am sure that you can do whatever you want again, so I shall take my leave now." She looked strangely pale. He stood up. He felt really, really guilty, that Lumine had been hurt because of him.

Paimon, who had till now been watching this in silence, flew up to Lumine, and practically dragged her to a nearby tree, then tried to push her down, to no avail. The girl on the other hand, yelped. "Ow Ow Ow OUCHHHH Paimon, I am NOT healed yet!!" At which Paimon hastily flew back and said, "Ooh Paimon's sorry, Lumi! Paimon thought that since you healed the adeptus, you had healed too!"

She sighed. "It's ok, just give me a Mondstadt HashBrown, then I'll go clean myself up." After she hungrily gobbled up the said food, which looked positively repelling to him, she stood up and said, "Wait for me at the teleport waypoint in Liyue Harbor, I'll be there soon." Paimon looked uncertain and said, "But Lumi," She was interrupted by Lumi, who said "I am tired of repeating this, I'll be fine." Paimon nodded and disappeared in childish sparkles.

Lumine walked off to the river nearby. It seemed they had forgotten him altogether.
