It was about two weeks later when Vic had picked me up for school the second time that week.
"Thanks for driving me," I tell him as he opens my door for me.
"Of course."
The drive to school was a quick one since it was filled with our conversation. When we pulled into the parking lot, I mentally groaned wishing we could spend the day together instead of at school. Vic had walked me to class and as we stood in front of the entrance, he asked, "I'll see you at lunch?"
I nodded, giving him a quick hug, "See you at lunch." I walked inside, seeing Oliver already sitting at our desk. After that weekend at the party, I came into class feeling awkward with how I left things. So walking into class that day, our conversation felt so forced I eventually went silent. Oliver noticed, and asked me why. Even though I almost couldn't find my words, Oliver managed to understand me, and he apologized for his actions. Now I can confidently say he's a friend, and that's all. My eyes were set on another.I sat down, putting my backpack on the floor. My voice was nearly sing-song as I said, "Good morning!" I began to unpack the items I needed for this hour.
"You're happy," Oliver pointed out, sitting up straight in his seat.
I nodded, "Yep, yep! Very much so, been hanging out with Vic here lately."
The other nodded with distant eyes, "Ah, so you two are getting serious?
I nodded, thinking a little, "It seems so! He invited me out to ice cream later! I'm hoping he asks me to be his soon." I opened my notebook and began to doodle in it.
"I'm happy you're happy, mate," he gave a halfhearted smile before sighing. There was a sullen expression held on his face. Was there something wrong?
"Are you okay?" I asked, looking over at him.
"Yep, I'm okay. Parents just had a fight this morning, is all." He said in a clipped voice. I knew that feeling all too well. The bell had rung for class to begin. "I'm sorry. If you need someone to talk to about it, I'm all ears. I do have experience in that department..." I think back to some of the times I had to calm Jenna down because our parents were fighting or vice versa. I remember some of the things I'd say like, it's okay, one day it will be over. They'll make up soon. They'll tire themselves out. That was my past though, Oliver could have it different; parents with normal problems. "Thanks," he nodded.
"Not a problem."-
"Mm chocolate is my favorite. When I was younger getting ice cream was one of my favorite things to with my Mom," I took another little bite off the cone. Mom used to take Jenna and I to get ice cream to escape from whatever was happening at home that day.
"This birthday cake flavored one I got is pretty good too, I've never had it before." Vic took another sip of his shake, pulling into a parking spot. I recognized this park as the one he had brought us to our first date. He waited until both of us had finished our ice cream before we had gotten out and began to take a stroll through the park. As we walked around we talked about any random topics we could think of. When we had ended up under the canopy of trees again, I had to comment on how pretty it still was. The wind wasn't blowing much, so the trees would rustle every so soften.
"Not as pretty as you," Vic flashed a toothy grin.
"Thank you Handsome," I leaned over and pressed a sweet kiss to his cheek. After our first kiss we shared many more, that mixed with all the time we've spent together has enabled me to find a comfort that was foreign to me, but I loved it.
"You're getting red again," he pointed out, lightly pinching one of my cheeks teasingly.
I swatted his hand away from my face, "Whose fault is that?"
"It's mine, and I'm proud cause have you seen yourself?" I shake my head yet again, "I don't get how you find me that way sometimes." My words sounded playful but they were honest. I really couldn't wrap my head around it when I looked at myself. I saw a version of myself that people didn't, and I was met with disappointment every time."It's just a fact Kells. You're an attractive boy, the whole school even knows it I'm sure," he said glancing over at me and lacing our fingers together.
"It's hard to see myself that way when I've always been told differently," I admit with a little sigh.
"People weren't very kind to you at your old school, huh?"
I shook my head, "No one was really kind anywhere besides my mom and Jenna," I admit.
"Well whatever they said was a lie. I bet they just wanted to break you down and steal your shine. You really are a gorgeous person Kellin. Inside and out," he assured me, causing a smile to form on my features. "Thank you, Vic."
Making a motion with his free hand he said, "It's not a problem."
