Marcy POV

Marcy slowly peeked her head from the corner of the wall. Cost was clear. She ran for it, running towards the door that would lead to freedom. Until...

"Marcy! What are you doing?!" The voice shouted from behind her, causing Marcy to freeze in place. She slowly turned around to see her two moms, standing behind her looking very fed up.

"Oh, hi Moms," she nervously says, shoving her key into her pocket. "What do you mean?"

"You know exactly what we mean, Marcy," Olivia, her newt mom, scolds. "You will be late for the party, and you aren't even dressed."

"I know, I know," Marcy says, waving dismissively. "I was just about to get ready, honest."

"Is that why you were running towards the exit with the key in your pocket?" Yunnan asks.

Marcy flinched. "How did you know?" She says, sighing as Yunnan held out her hand. Marcy stepped forward, dropping the key into her hand.

"Moms instinct," she explains.

"But that's beside the point, Marcy. Why were you trying to leave the palace right before the party?" Olivia asks.

Marcy sighed. "You wouldn't get it."

Olivia reached her hand forward, touching Marcy's reassuringly. "Try us. If your moms don't understand, no one will."

Marcy took a deep breath before nodding. Olivia lead them into a quiet room, the library/study room, where Marcy loved spending her time. The library was huge with two stories (an inside balcony) and spiraled stairs and of course a huge fireplace where Marcy liked to sit, reading. "I don't want do something a speech," Marcy admits, sitting down on a bean bag chair next to the fireplace. "I get that it's an important party or whatever but even looking at all those eyes makes me feel sick!" Her moms looked at each other as Marcy sat in silence. "I knew you wouldn't get it." She slumped deeper into her chair, miserably.

"Marcy, when I was your age I had to go through everything you are.. I had to make fancy speeches and where big dresses."

"But you are perfect for it! I can't help but think sometimes I was never meant to be here! I hate fancy gowns and public speeches and I still get lost in this palace!" Marcy cries. "I just wanted to clear my head!"

Olivia took a deep breath. "Marcy, you are the future ruler of Newtopia. Everyone is dying to hear from you-"

"Then I just won't be the ruler! Don't I have a choice?" Marcy shouts, standing up. She took a deep breath before sitting down again. She already felt guilty for yelling at her mom.

"Of course you have a choice, but this was what King Andrias wanted. He saw undying potential in you, Marcy."

Marcy sighed. "I know... but I just don't get it."

"Sometimes I don't get it either," Olivia admits. "A 15 year old girl over his royal advisor.. but other times I can see it. You're so unique, Marcy. I know you will lead well some day."

Marcy gulped. After a brief moment of hesitation, she sighed. "Okay, I'll go get changed," Marcy says in defeat before standing up. Just before she could leave, she heard her mother call out to her.

     "Marcy!" Yunnan called out.

Marcy turned back to face her two moms. "We're proud of you, honey," She admits.

Marcy smiled. "I'm glad," she said before shutting the door. That was all she wanted. To make her moms proud. And that she would do, whether she liked it or not.
