˗ˏˋ °•*⁀➷♡ ~ Miles hopelessly stared at the stack of homework on his desk. He had taken a thirty-minute power nap before attempting to get through it all, but all it did was make him drowsier than he was before. He reached for a pad of paper and sighed. He needed to start his essay, but he had no motivation and his brain was empty. Suddenly his phone buzzed. He looked over at the name to see it was Y/N. He grabbed it, in a hurry to read what she had sent him.

Miles looked out of his window and smiled, seeing Y/N waving at him happily. It looked like she was holding her skateboard and two drinks, presumably one for each of them. She had changed into a more comfortable outfit, which consisted of a black band tee and green skater pants; though the band tee was covered by the gray sweater the boy had given her.

When he finally got to her, he found her sitting on the stairs putting her hair up into two high pigtails.

"Hey Miles! One sec." Her diction was muffled from the brush she was holding in her mouth. After her edges were laid to perfection, she got up and brushed the gravel off of her butt.

"Here," She said, handing him a drink, "I thought we could hang out for a bit."

She noticed he had brought a black bag with him along with his skateboard.

"What's this?" She looked at the bag inquisitively. He smiled, taking a small brown book out of his bag. She immediately identified it as the sketchbook she left at his house over the summer.

"Woah, you kept my sketch book?" She reached for it, politely taking it from him.

"Of course I kept it." He smiled watching her look over the graffiti art she made.

"This is so sweet of you Miles... I thought i'd never see this old thing again." He scratched the back of his neck shyly, smiling even wider. He kicked a pebble before putting both of his hands in his pockets.

"Hey uh... if you didn't have a specific place in mind, wanna head over to my Uncle Aaron's?" She closed the sketchbook and moved her attention to him. She cocked her head in and inquisitive manner.

"I mean sure, but for what?" He linked hands with her.

"You'll see, trust me." The walk down the streets was pleasant. The night buzzed with sounds of the city, making the two feel alive. As they walked, Miles had a yearning look in his eyes. Y/N could tell he missed being a carefree kid, and it made her a little sad to see him that way. She made a mental note to surprise him with outings like this more often before realizing they were at his Uncle's home.

"Here, hold on." Miles said as he took a picture of his Uncle from the outside of his window and sent it to him. The two teens snickered when they saw him look out his window with a suspicious face. When he looked again, he saw the duo pressing their faces against the window, chuckling and making weird expressions.

"Hey Uncle Aaron!" Miles says joyfully as he hugs the older man. After Miles let go Y/N hugged him too, exchanging cheerful greetings.

About thirty minutes had passed since they had arrived. Y/N was on the couch perfecting some of her sketches and Miles was beating up a helpless punching bag. He kept taunting the bag, causing her to occasionally chuckle a bit.

"What's up with school?" Uncle Aaron asked while doing the dishes.

"Going great! Got tons of friends."

"Me when I lie." Y/N said, listening in on their conversation. After Miles shot her a dirty look she put her hands up in mock surrender, getting back to her sketches.

"You can't tell me it's all bad there, smart girls is where it's at. Place must be full of  'em." He walked over to the punching bag, holding it for the boy.

"No, there's no one, there's no one." Y/N felt a wave of relief going over her body. She knew how she felt about Miles and she definitely didn't like the idea of having any competition.

"Yo... I cannot have a nephew of mine on the streets with no game." He says, throwing popcorn into his mouth.

"I got game!" Uncle Aaron and Y/N both raised a skeptical eyebrow.

"There was a new girl, actually, she's kinda into me. You know how it is." Her heart sank. So much for having no competition.

"What's her name?" Miles goes to sit down on the couch next to Y/N. He lays on her shoulder and keeps talking.

"You know we– we're laying down the groundwork right now." His Uncle laughed, amused at his nephew's attempt to sound cool. His laughter died down a bit when he saw Miles was feeling embarrassed.

"You know about the shoulder touch?"

"Of course I do...but tell me anyway."

"Tomorrow, you find that girl, walk up to her, and be like," He touches Miles's shoulder and continues, "Hey." There was a short pause after he demonstrated the shoulder touch, a pause that was followed by Miles and Y/N bursting into a fit of laughter.

"Are you serious? You can't be serious." Y/N wiped the tears that had formed in her eye and leaned her head on top of Miles'. Uncle Aaron smiled, staring at the two with a warm look. Suddenly the boy's phone vibrated while his uncle was pulling a notepad from the bag he brought. The light from his phone illuminated his now unhappy face.

"We should probably go, I still have a paper to do tonight."

Uncle Aaron looked at his phone and saw the text was from his father. He casually ignored Miles' statement and continued to look at his sketchbook, putting on a surprised face.

"Yo, you've been holding out on me! You throw these up yet?" He held up the book and looked at Y/N for a split second. She immediately understood his plan.

"Man, that's sick as fuck. Please tell me the answer is yes."

"No, man, you know my dad, I can't." He looked down at his shoes as he stood up from the couch. Aaron stood up too, prompting Y/N to stand with them.

"C'mon, I got a spot you aint gonna believe." The two kids were quickly pushed out of the door and back onto the streets of the city, ready to explore.
