Capri Martin, 5:00pm
It'd been a long day and it damn sure tired me out. After hanging out with Sam and talking our shit, she drove me home and now I was at the front door of my house.
Taking my keys, I unlocked the door and stepped through it. It was so quiet and peaceful here. No one seemed to be home as I walked through it. Loved that for me.
No bitchy mom, scolding me for every little thing. No tag-along dad that did it just to please her. I felt calm.
Suddenly, I could hear my name being shouted from afar.
"Capri! Is that you?" Someone called out.
Sounded just like my dad but I prayed it was my brother just playing around.
"Yeah..." I answered back, following where the voice cane from. Making my way to the living room I found my dad sprawled on the couch.
Now why the fuck was this man home?
"Hey." I sighed, putting my bag down in front of him.
Instead of saying anything back, he furrowed his brows. Then sniffed the air as if he smelled something potent or foul.
"Pri..."
"Yeah?" I asked with confusion in my tone. I know he could see it on my face too.
"You been smoking weed?" He asked.
My heart sank. I don't know why, but I done forgot the weed smell most likely sunk into my clothes. The one day I forgot my perfume...But I was innocent! I didn't actually smoke anything, I just inhaled what was in the car.
"No." I answered truthfully.
He sat up on the couch, taking a deep breath. "I'm not your mom Pri. You could tell me the truth."
See I trusted my dad sometimes. Only sometimes. But other times he would run and go tell my mom and I'd get in trouble. Whether I was telling the truth or not.
"No daddy...I wasn't smoking." I huffed. "You can't believe me just once? I'm so sick of the same routine with y'all. And you know what...so what if I actually was? What are y'all gonna do? Punish me again as if I didn't get it enough?"
He took a deep breath.
"Sit."
I was confused. Scared almost. Why wasn't he yelling? Telling me to go to my room or some shit...was this a set up? Was my mom gone pop out with some like boarding school papers or sum?
I hesitantly sat down, crossing my legs and folding my arms. Then I looked over at him.
"I wanna establish a trust system with you." He started.
Right off the bat I could tell he was bullshitting but I was gonna hear him out.
"Last week...kinda made me realize how hard me and your mother are on you. That boy coming over to the house set your mother off and she wouldn't let anyone speak. But you have to cut her some slack. Her parents were the same way with her and she just wants what's best for you."
"Yeah but there are other ways to go about it rather then yelling and screaming. Not listening to what I have to say is not one of them." I explained.
"And that's why I'm here to listen now Capri. So say what's on your mind. You're going on 18 now. Very soon you'll be on your own in college."
"You sure you wanna listen to what I have to say?" I scoffed, looking off to the side.
"Yes I'm very sure."
