Capri Martin
"Q bear! We're gonna be late!" I complained, fixing my lip gloss in his hallway mirror.
"Don't call me that!"
"WHY? I've been calling you that for CENTURIES." I pouted.
"Yeen neva call me that Capri. Don't lie."
"IT'S LITERALLY YOUR CONTACT NAME!"
"Yeah Q bearrrrr." Javon teased.
"Now you got this wigga started." He huffed, making his way down the hallway. "Come on."
Leading the way, I rolled my eyes. He was so annoying around his lil friend. He never gave me his all in fear of being judged. Shit was wack. It'd been going on for a while now too.
Tried not to get too annoyed with it. It was just one of those things I guess. I wasn't used to it because he didn't have friends before. It was crazy how this one homeboy was changing him a little.
Grabbing my hand from behind, he caught my attention. I looked at him while he kissed it. Then he mouthed 'sorry.' I swear I had instant butterflies. This was why I couldn't ever be mad at him.
Looking forward, I ignored his gesture. But he wanted a reaction so he grabbed me by my waist and pulled me in closer. Then he kissed on me.
"Alright I get it, I get it." I laughed, pushing him away so we could leave.
"Exactly. Nah come on."
"You got yo's?" Javon asked as we entered the front room of the house. Holding up a book bag, he pointed at it.
"It's on my back."
"Why do you have a book bag with you?" I questioned.
He shrugged his shoulders. "Same reason you gotta bag on yo shoulder."
"To hold your lip gloss, emergency pads, keys, wallet and phone?" I scoffed.
"Yeah. Nah let's go. We wanna get there early." He huffed.
"Early? Fa what? We just going there for giggles and laughs."
"You funny Capri." Javon snickered, unlocking the front door and letting both me and Q out first.
I was just confused. Why did the both of them have book bags? We were going to a baby shower. I wasn't gonna ask any further questions. I wasn't too worried.
Q wouldn't sink as low as selling drugs at a BABY shower. But that's what it was giving. I was just gonna have to put faith in him.
And the fact that he had his lil partner in crime with him, holding the same book bag made my mind wander. But I was gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. My baby was so much better than that. So much.

Nisi's baby showa was bigga than I expected. Shit was outside in this like....garden. And shawty had the whole place decked out. It was real classy. I thought it was gone be in somebody small basement where they served meatballs and had niggas drinking from baby bottles.
But the bigga the betta. Gave me and Von a chance to spread around and talk ta folks. Network a luh bit and in no time we had a luh stack.
We kept it low of course. Not makin shit obvious. Kept a drink in our hand and ate some food to blend in. But between the both of us, we had a good $500 and the party was just gettin started.
I was addicted to the rush this shit gave me. Watching the money pile up and the people get what they wanted put a smile on my face.
And not to mention, I was building an empire for myself. Building it now so my kids ain't have to go through what I went through.
