It was so fucking cold

It was so fucking cold. So, so, so, so, SO fucking cold. I swear I hated the winter time, I hated the snow, I hated the weather in Seattle in it's entirety. It was either snowy, rainy, or both. And of course they didn't cancel classes today.

So here I was trudging my way across this snowy and icy cold campus. Just praying I'd make it back to my dorm in one piece. Thankfully, this would be the last time I would be going to class.

It was Christmas break and I looked forward to it all semester. No more homework, papers, projects. Nothing. I was free to relax and enjoy some time off.

When I finally made it to my dorm, I took a breath of relief. It was so warm inside and my fingers didn't feel like they wanted to fall off anymore. Once I swiped my key card and opened my room, I wanted to pass out. Couldn't even make it to my bed I was so tired.

And it was only one class! I couldn't believe it. I was too young to feel this way. I shouldn't have been feeling 45 at 23!

As I walked into my room, the first person I saw was Sam. She'd been packing her things and literally about to leave. Like there was no waiting around or goodbyes, she was that eager.

Same with Zillah. She'd been struggling to get her left boot on while trying to put her jacket on at the same time.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait! Y'all are leaving now?" I questioned, letting Sam leave the room first.

"Yeah." She sighed. "We have a long drive back to belly. Sonny is dropping me off to his parents house then we're planning to crash at mine. Just so we can spend equal amounts of time with both families."

"Okay. What about you Zillah?"

"Javon is outside!" She exclaimed. "I can't wait
to see him much longer."

"So that's it? No Christmas movies like we always do on Christmas Eve? No matching PJ's?" I pouted, entering the room and letting Zillah out.

"I'm sorry there's a change of plans Pri-pri. But you'll be okay. Trust me you'll be happy in like..." She responded, checking her watch. "5 minutes! Let's go Z!"

I poked my head out of our room as they sped down the hall. Running with their suitcases like they'd been running a fucking race. I couldn't believe this.

Every Christmas Eve, my friends and I always spent together. Then we went home to our families. But now I had to spend it alone until I drove my car out to Bellevue. And I had three families to see. Cole and Emmy, from there we'd go to Brenda's to see our little sister, and then I'd spend the rest with Quentin and his big ass family.
