Chapter 12: Search and Rescue

Life could not be any more complicated than it was now. My best friend and his family were in danger, along with other innocents. Then there was the law that was just passed that endangered every single one of us.

But regardless of the Anti-Vigilante law, our duty did not change and we were going to rescue the royal family and those innocents regardless of the risks.

"What threat are we dealing with?" I asked. "A disgruntled citizen or a terrorist? Or a Meta attack?"

"It's a Meta attack" said Felicity. "We are also suspecting they are not only people who were exposed to dark matter but people who are apparently talking about their past lives and how they are now remembering it."

"So it's one of those people who had their original multiversal memories restored?"

"Yes" Dinah confirmed.

"What kind of powers are we dealing with here?" asked Laurel.

"UV/electromagnetic powers" said Felicity.

"So the same powers to those of Allegra's and Esperanza Garcia's?" I asked.

"Precisely. They've slaughtered all security personnel and some innocents" said Dinah.

"What about the royal family?" I asked, worried because Fazza was there.

"Not as far as we can tell" said Felicity, who'd hacked into the security cameras.

"Then we head out there. Anti-Vigilante Law or not, it is still our duty to save lives!" I said.

"Agreed" said Laurel, and everyone stood up.

"I'm in" said Dinah.

"Me too" said Rashid.

"And we'll stay behind and continue surveillance in case things get hairy with this new law" said Cisco.

We suited up, I grabbed my canary cry collar and put it on. We all headed to the location and snuck through a back door so we weren't spotted by the police, leading to the main room where the hostages were being held.

Entering, we had a clear view of the entire Ballroom. As we saw earlier through the cameras, all security personnel was slaughtered. Some were so badly burned that they were unrecognizable.

One out of the five Metas, had his hands lighting up with UV light that was for sure lethal and I could see the threat becoming more and more unstable for everyone.

"I'll use my cry the moment we land and that way we can debilitate them" I said.

"Good idea" said Laurel.

Then out of nowhere, as we were about to jump into the action, police came and the moment they did the metas started using their powers and the UV ones were burning them alive to the point where all the hostages were screaming in terror at their witnessing law enforcement being brutally defeated.

The UV metas then blasted the police with a higher dose of UV radiation that was completely unfiltered and left you with brutal burns that were next to impossible to survive.

The only known case to have survived such a burn was Ralph Dibny – AKA Elongated Man – since he was a Meta and Metas tended to heal a heck of a lot quicker than ordinary humans.

We realized it was now or never. I grabbed one of my Trick Arrows and used a Grappling Hook one to grab onto faraway objects for swinging purposes. I then swung while Laurel grabbed on to me and Dinah with Rashid.
