IF YOU WOULD ASK NIKAIA TO DESCRIBE WHAT LOVE WAS, she would call it a quiet emotion that in time becomes part of the oxygen you need to breathe, and so though you may feel not sure that it's there, any form of removal and the emotions begin to choke.
Nikaia always told him that the depth of the sky's blue is as their love, that only over the years do they notice the strength of the hue. Up close it is as clear as pure water, yet when they see the miles it is the blue of fairytale dreams.
And that love - something that was intimate and personal and that only belonged to them and no one but them; it gave them something else.
It was a miracle, really. The birth of Nina Pheme - and at the time, Quinn; the last name Nikaia took on during the early 2000's, wasn't supposed to happen. Never had there been Eternals who had the ability to procreate life from sexual exchange with another Eternal.
Yet here the two were, reunited after sixteen years - equally speechless as they stared at the girl in front of them. Nina took after her mother, from her piercing brown eyes to the shape of her nose down to the unique way her lips rested; full and what some people have described as a "flipped" appearance; they were almost identical.
Except for the curious look on her face and that soft smirk that knew too much - a little too much; that was all Druig.
Seconds pass, Nikaia's brain taking everything in, struggling to comprehend that she isn't one of the pictures she keeps inside her head, that she is real; no longer a chubby child in her arms - now a teenager, pink dress and hair disheveled.
Her brain can't formulate a thought, at least not one based in any language; Akkadian, Nahuatl, Arabic, Fula, English - nothing. And if she doesn't touch her soon her atoms will tear themselves apart.
But if Nina was anything like her or Druig, she knew that running up to hug the girl would end with her with a spear in her stomach.
"Are you from HYDRA?" Nina's voice quivered; and just hearing that sound broke something in Nikaia, something that she hasn't felt ever since that night. "Did Illiana sent you here to kill me?"
Druig, who had seemed way too calm in the instance of meeting his long lost daughter shoved another macaron in his mouth, eyebrows raising. "Who?"
"Who my ass. I know what you're doing. You think you can lie around me?" Nina's eyes glow for a second, her lips mumbling a whisper so silent none of them could hear it, which enough to make Nikaia's heart clench in her chest.
The lights in her eyes dim at the same time that something small appears in her hand.
Nikaia, who has studied and help manufacture weapons in all human history notices exactly what it is the moment Nina summons it. A sheet steel cylinder with four emission holes on top and one on the bottom to allow smoke release when the grenade is ignited - in short, a smoke grenade.
