STEP ???: LEAVE VALERIA'S ANNOYING ASS ALONE

It's raining.

It's raining and Nina wants to jump off a cliff.

Every once in a while, there's a tiny, fleeting moment wherein the two girls get along - no bullshiting, no sarcastic remarks, and no fighting or hair pulling. Just the two of them, using their brains together to bond over the common enemy.

The sisters didn't want to admit it, but that common enemy was Illiana, their mother. She didn't take failure easily, but what she hated the most was half wins; when they've won but haven't really won.

This was one of those examples. They've stolen the weapons, sure, but they've left the best ones back in the van.

"Shit!" Nina hissed quietly, just as she finished counting the stolen weapons. Seven. According to Valeria, their mother was expecting eleven weapons - they were missing four more. "Should we go back?" she questions Valeria. After all, this was her mission, so she should have a backup plan.

"Oh, and get ourselves blasted into a black hole? No thank you." Valeria grunted, pacing around in circles as she started to count their haul again — it was just seven. Nina watched her sister; the way her left eye twitched, or how her knee was bouncing uncontrollably, coming up to the realization that she was nervous.

Mad, she was familiar with. But Valeria was almost shaking.

"Is there something you're not telling me?" Nina presses, throwing her dirty costume in the backseat. Normally, Valeria was very strict with her car, but it was like she wasn't even doing anything.

"Val?" Nina tries again, her heartbeat beating faster in anticipation.

Valeria doesn't say anything.

Nina's eyes glow into the familiar milky hue that everyone was getting used to, and no matter how much Valeria tries to physically stop herself from doing so, her brain is working on its own command - tell her, tell her, tell her.

"I wasn't supposed to do this. I convinced mom to give me the mission instead of you going into a new one again." Valeria's voice is monotone as if she was reciting a very boring text. In an instant, her eyes lose that white color, followed by a violent "Fuck you!" coming out of her lips.

Out of all the sisters, Illiana has always described Nina as the smartest out of them all. Even before she got her powers, Nina was always levelheaded and refused to lash out violently like Valeria always was, always so calculated, always trying to keep her emotions in check.
