The dimly lit carriage was filled with an eerie silence, broken only by the rhythmic thuds of the horses' hooves and the sound of my lover and my nervous breathing, magnified in the confined space. The protagonist's hands shook uncontrollably as she nervously peered out of the window, her eyes darting back and forth, searching for any signs of danger.

My lover reached out, gently clasping her hand in his as a source of comfort. "It's going to be okay," he whispered softly. "You should get some rest," he said, his voice filled with concern and care. "You must be exhausted."

I shook my head, but gradually weariness settled over me. I leaned against my lover's shoulder, the weight of my eyelids became too heavy to bear, and I finally allowed them to close.

I jerked awake to the frantic yelps of the horse and the furious swaying of the carriage.

"W-what's happening?"  I asked, rubbing my eyes.

From the window, I was able to glimpse that we were on a stone bridge and the murky water beneath us.

Suddenly, the carriage started to tip into the river.

"...!"

My lover's arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me into his chest as a source of protection. The world spun as the carriage along with us inside plunged into the waters, muffling the screams of the horses and horsemen.

The bitterly cold water hit me like a thousand knives.

The water closed over our heads, rushing into the carriage through the windows,  filling the entire carriage. I could feel my lover attempting to pull himself out of the carriage through the window with me in his arms.

My eyes were stinging, my heart racing in my chest. Something tickled my feet. My vision blurred. Bubbles emerged from my mouth.

We were going to suffocate down here! Gritting my teeth, I slipped out of his grasp and shoved him out the carriage window. I felt desperate fingers attempting to grab me, to pull me out too. But the water current was stone-hearted and yanked him away from me.

Out of the dirt and dead leaves swirling in the murky water, I spotted arms pulling my lover onto the shore. He was rescued!

They were wearing royal uniforms, at least I think they were.

My lungs burned as I squeezed my eyes shut, the edges of the window clawing at my arms and legs as I pushed myself through the small window.

My eyes flew open, my heart racing, and I found myself lying on a hospital bed. The room was unfamiliar, the ceiling a blank canvas above me. The sensation of cloth against my skin brought a wave of discomfort. Confusion clouded my mind like a dense fog.

Who am I? Where am I? What's my name? What's going on?

The creaking of the door and hurried footsteps broke through the haze, drawing my attention. Huh?

"Amanda?" A man, his hair streaked with gray, entered the room and called out to me. His face paled as our eyes met, an undercurrent of nervousness evident in his actions. He ran his fingers through his hair, a gesture of unease, as he approached me.

The doctor poured me a glass of water before gently assisting me to sit up in bed, his touch offering support and reassurance.

I frowned. Who was he? Why was I here? Why couldn't I remember anything?  "Do I know you?" My voice came out slurred, my thoughts muddled and clouded.
