When I arrived back at Julia's chamber, Joe was still asleep in his chair. I smirked. Because I only slept for half the night, I decided to catch up on some sleep. I crawled into bed and snuggled up against a pillow.
***
Clank! Clank!
I woke up to the sound of someone banging a fork against a plate loudly. I frowned and squinted to see who was making such a noise.
A figure was standing near a table and making the clanking noise.
"Stop it!"
I pushed myself up on the bed. The figure turned around and I was stunned to see that he was... Lucas!
"What are you doing here?! Where's Joe?!" I exclaimed. I looked around and Joe was nowhere to be found. Did he just leave me here alone with Lucas?
"He's at the training grounds training with the other guards, so I'll be looking after you today," Lucas said, emotionless. But there was a hint of disgust and annoyance in his tone.
Does Lucas hate Julia that much because she stopped loving Cedric?
"Do you hate me that much? Are you that close to Cedric anyway?" I asked Lucas, annoyed and rolling my eyes.
"Yes, I'm his loyal soldier and guard, so that's why I was with him when he first met you," Lucas said through gritted teeth and swept a finger under my chin, lifting it up. "Now don't talk to me like that with your dirty mouth."
He let go of my chin and used hand sanitizer.
"You...!" My face went beet red. I was so offended! "Humph!" I turned my head away from him angrily.
"Eat your breakfast," Lucas ordered and pushed a plate of blueberry pancakes towards me.
Did he expect me to have an appetite? I turned my head away from the food. "No."
"Alright then, suit yourself." Lucas took the plate of breakfast back and dumped it into the trash can.
What in the world?! He didn't even bother to save it for me so when I'm hungry I can eat it?! What a heartless man!
Lucas slipped on some white gloves before pulling out a clipboard. "This is your schedule for today. You will be very busy because tomorrow you will be leaving and heading to another empire with the maids."
I sucked in a sharp breath. This means that I NEED to meet Theo tonight, or I might not have another chance.
"Do you understand?" Lucas snapped impatiently.
"Yeah." I crossed my arms.
"The first thing on the schedule is horseback riding," Lucas told me, his eyes not leaving the clipboard.
Horseback riding?!
Where did that come from? Why do I have to suddenly ride a horse?
Lucas must have noticed my surprised face because he rolled his eyes. "Are you dumb? When you are leaving the empire you will need to ride in a carriage, however if the carriage breaks down you will need to ride a horse. So you need to practice riding a horse in case that happens. Do you understand, stupid?"
I glared at him. "Don't call me stupid."
"Let's head over to the stables," Lucas said, his tone of voice harsh. I had no choice but to follow this guy, unwillingly.
We exited Julia/my sister's chamber. We went outside and past the palace gates, where a field of fresh grass stretched out. I spotted a wooden stable in the distance. That must be where we are headed. My mind began to wander as my feet crunched against the grass. Lucas was grabbing my wrist, not risking me escaping.
