Harry sighed and shook his head. "I'm sorry, Your Highness, but that's not possible."

What?

"What, why?"

"Your highness, the reason is simple," Harry replied, "Lucas retired from work two years ago to take care of his daughter and wife."

So? I can go visit him! What's wrong with retiring?

I rolled my eyes. "Do you know his address?"

"Yes."

"Then it won't be a problem!" I flipped my hair over my shoulder. "I shall pay Lucas a visit!" I turned around and started to walk away, proud of my intelligence, when Harry stopped me.

"Your Highness! You cannot visit Lucas!"

I frowned but I didn't turn around. "Why is that?"

"It's because His Majesty has forbidden you from even taking one step out of the palace."

What?!

Anger boiled inside of me as I clenched my jaw. I dashed towards the door, my cheeks flushed. I needed to talk with Cedric! I can't believe he won't let me leave this stupid jail-like place! Am I someone that you can randomly lock up? Just because I look like your stupid wife that betrayed you?!

"Your Highness, where are you going?!" Harry shouted. He jumped up from his seat and ran after me.

I sped down the hall, ignoring Harry's urgent calls.

"Your Highness! The emperor is resting and it will not be good for anyone if you interrupt his sleep!"  Harry shouted as chased after me. I skidded to a stop at Harry's words. He was right. And knowing the emperor and his hot temper, he would kill me in a heartbeat.

"Your Highness, I'll escort you to your chamber."

I nodded halfheartedly. What choice did I have other than to return to my room? What am I supposed to do now?

I need to talk to Lucas. He was my only hope.

I flung the door to Julia's bedroom open and stormed inside. I threw myself on the bed.

"Your Highness, are you alright?" Logan questioned. "Are you hungry? Do you want me to get you some pastries?"

"No," I grumbled, my voice muffled by the pillow.

"Do you need me to get you a glass of water, Your Highness?"

"No!"

Logan and Joe stared at me with worried gazes, which annoyed me. Why wouldn't they just leave me alone and give me some space. Some freedom? I buried my head under my pillow. I heard muffled voices of Joe and Logan.

What were they talking about? Were they complaining about my arrogance? I slowly lifted my pillow up.

"I'm so glad Her Highness isn't attempting to leave anymore," Joe said.

"Yeah."

"She left her room twice, but she returned safely both times! Maybe we can finally let our guard down."

The two men had no clue that I was eavesdropping on their conversation. "I hope she doesn't try to run away again," Logan sighed.

My eyes widened. Run away? An idea flashed in my mind.

Run away!

Perhaps I could run away and pay Lucas a visit, since Cedric and his guards refuse to let me. I slowly pushed myself up, glancing towards the two guards. "Logan, Joe," I called.

Joe's body stiffened, slowly turning to face me. "Your Highness... did you hear anything? We were just jok-"

I waved a hand at him carelessly. "It doesn't matter what you said. What does matter is that if you know Lucas's address or not."

Logan frowned. "Who?"

Joe scratched his head. "Are you talking about the Lucas, the one who retired two years ago?"

I nodded my head, hope rising in my chest.

Joe looked at me suspiciously. "He lives on Maple Street, house number 201. Is something wrong?"

"Oh, nothing," I said quickly. "Just curious."

"Who is this Lucas?" Logan asked.

"Someone you don't know, idiot!"

As Joe and Logan began arguing as I wrote Lucas's address on a piece of paper, carefully slipping it into my dress pocket. The next step was to sneak out of the palace building, but I couldn't do it in front of two bodyguards.

I need them to leave. Suddenly, I recalled what they asked me before.

"Logan, I'm feeling quite hungry, could you please bring me something to eat?" I asked. I felt a tingle of guiltiness, as they trusted me so much at this point.

"Of course! Right away, Your Highness." Logan slipped past Joe and out into the hallway, hurrying in the direction of the kitchen.

"Joe, it would be lovely if you could fetch be a glass of water," I then looked up at Joe. "Please, would you mind if you...?"

"I would never mind. I'll be right back." Joe seemed overjoyed that I was asking him for a favor and eagerly left the room, pleased to... serve me.

Without wasting any time, I left the dreadful bedroom of Julia's. I speed-walked down the hall, careful not to draw any attention. Passing a few maids that were engrossed in their own conversations, I escaped into the garden.

As I dashed towards the gates, I snatched a maid uniform along the way. Wearing a disguise wouldn't hurt. I changed quickly behind a row of trees, abandoning my bright colored silk dress.

As I burst through the garden gates, I came across two knights, guarding the exit. Oh gosh. I took a step back, my face paling. Slowly, I smoothed the front of my uniform and fixed my hair. "U-uhm, excuse me, could you let me through?" I asked politely, staring at my feet as I spoke.

"Who are you and where are you going?"

I could feel the guard's gaze on me.

"Sophia Winston!" I blurred out. "I'm one of the maids and I-I'm going out to purchase some goods."

Still staring at me, he slowly opened the exit door. "Go ahead, Ms. Winston."

"T-thank you," I stuttered, and when I was out of his eyesight I broke into a sprint.
