I began to crawl away, digging my fingers into the dirt and attempting to lift my legs.

Too slowly.

I knew I looked ridiculous - trying so hard to escape even when my ankles were twisted. I couldn't run, yet I was still trying so hard to flee.

Just as I was about to let them take me away, a figure dressed all in black suddenly appeared from behind a few buildings.  She/he held up his/her fist and swung it at one of the knights. The knight that had been punched stumbled back, roaring in pain.

Who is that person? Why are they here? To save me or....?

That mysterious person dealt with all knights quickly, knocking all of them out. I stared in disbelief and awe. They were certainly skilled in fighting. That black figure wore black from head to toe - from black boots to a black cloak.

My mysterious saver stepped over to me. "T-thank you for saving me," I stammered. My rescuer didn't reply, just continued to walk towards me. I felt my heart pound inside of me.

"H-hey. What d-do you want? M-money? I don't have any money on me!" I began to crawl backwards, a layer of sweat forming on my forehead.

"D-do you want to knock m-me out too?" I backed away furiously. "Do you want to kidnap me? Sell me off to some random old man?!"

Suddenly, the person started giggling like crazy. "Amanda," she gasped, "you are hilarious." What?! I furrowed my eyebrows. What a familiar voice... It was a female vice.

"Who are you?" I yelled, pointing a finger at her.

The black figure pulled off her hoodie and mask, revealing her pale face in the moonlight and silver hair.

My pupils shrank in shock. "Jessica?!"

I let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness it wasn't some creepy weird psycho.

"Jessica, I never knew you were so skilled in fighting," I said, admiring her bravery and skills.

Jessica smiled faintly. "I started training and taking lessons on fighting ever since that accident."

I frowned. "What accident?"

Jessica's smile froze and she looked uncomfortable. "Oh, no no." She strained a smile and held out a hand for me. "Come on, let's go."

"My ankle..." My voice trailed off as my cheeks flushed red and pink.

"Here, stand up. I'll help balance your weight. You can lean on me." Jessica helped me up and I wrapped an arm around her.

"Where are we going? Why did you suddenly appear here? Did you just save me? What accident?"

Jessica put a finger to my lips, her eyes cold. "Amanda, it's best if you don't know anything."

What?!

"Why?!"

I'm not a baby! I stared at her, emotions flashing in my eyes.

"Like I said, it's best if you don't know anything, including why."

I groaned. Is Jessica seriously treating me like a toddler?! Well, we just met a few days ago so she probably doesn't trust me well enough to tell me her private things. Yeah, that must be it!

But why does she have to act so mysterious?! It's driving me crazy!

"But you can know where we are going," Jessica told me with a smile as she continued to drag me down the street. "We're going to my house, where you will be staying for the night."

"Thanks. I really have no where to go."

In less than six minutes, we arrived at Jessica's house. Jessica unlocked the front door. However, without waiting for me to go in first, she dashed inside and started  taking down pictures from the walls and shoving photo frames in a cardboard box.

"What are you doing?" I asked, stepping inside. I closed the door behind me and watched her shove photos in the cardboard box, hiding them from my view.

I walked over to her and tried to peek over her shoulder, but she shoved them quickly behind a table.

"Uhh, umm, it's nothing," she said quickly, dragging me aside. "It's just some old photos of my family."

It was obvious that Jessica didn't want me to see those photos. I bit my lip, twisting around. Did Jessica not trust me?

No, Amanda. I need to understand that Jessica just met me and can't share private information with me yet. I have to be patient and grateful that Jessica is even letting me stay over.

Jessica pulled me over to the kitchen table and I plopped down on a stool.

"Have you had dinner yet?" Jessica asked, pouring herself and I a glass of water. "I can get you something to eat if you want."

I only had a few bites of dinner at Lucas' house. My stomach growled.

"Not really," I told her.

"Okay." Jessica quickly brought over a plate of rice, chicken and beans. "Here. I brought you your favorite - chicken, rice and beans," Jessica said, pushing the plate towards me.

My mouth dropped open. "How do you know my favourite foods?!"

Jessica shrugged and glanced outside the window, avoiding eye contact with me. "I guessed."

It was clear that she didn't want to answer. I thought we were friends. Why did she have to be so secretive around me?

I shoved some beans into my mouth.

"I'll be upstairs if you need me, Amanda."

I nodded, my mouth full of rice and beans. Jessica brushed some dirt off her black cloak and headed upstairs.  Before I knew it, the plate was empty. I poured myself another glass of water and gulped it down.

"Ah, so full." I rubbed my stomach.

My eyelids began to grow heavy and I was beginning to fall asleep due to a food coma. But I still managed to walk up the stairs and into the guest room. I threw myself on the bed and drifted off.
