My eyes slowly fluttered opened, welcomed by the blinding light pouring into the room from the window.  I haven't slept so well ever since I woke up from the coma. I swung my legs over to the side of the bed and made the way towards the dressing table, smoothing the back of my hair. I grabbed a pair of black pants and a tank top from the closest and changed, before making my way into the hallway. "Jessica?" I knocked on her bedroom door. "Jess?" Was she still asleep?

I pushed the door open and peeked inside.  The room was empty, with sunlight beaming in. Her bed was neatly made and overall the bedroom looked neat and tidy. "Jess?" I called. Perhaps she was downstairs already.

I strolled down the stairs and spotted Jessica seated in the living room, reading the newspaper report.

"Good morning!" I said, waving at Jessica. I took a step closer to find that she was frowning - her eyebrows knitted together and her lips pressed against each other. Was something wrong?

"Morning, Amanda. There's some bagels in the kitchen you can warm up and eat," Jessica told me. I thanked her and slipped into the kitchen, instantly grabbed the plate of bagels. I snatched one up.

"Amanda, can you come over here please?" Jessica called from the living room.

"What is it?" Yawning, I stepped into the room with my butter-spreaded bagel in my hand.

"I have been reading the newspaper all morning, and I thought you would like to know something."

"Know what?"

"Cedric's knights are going from house to house, in search for you," Jessica explained, taping the newspaper with her index finger. "They are searching every house and they are currently four houses away from our's."

What?!

I gritted my teeth. Was the emperor crazy? He's really desperate to find me, isn't he? I clenched my fists. What was I suppose to do now? It wouldn't take long for them to find me. My fists shook. Is he that desperate to kill me?

Jessica put her left leg over her right leg and leaned back in her chair. "Knowing how thoughtful and determined Cedric is to bringing you back, they're going to search in every corner of each house, leaving us a few hours of time. You can hide in town when the knights are at my house and return when they're gone. I'll find you when they leave, alright?"

"Great plan."

"Oh, I need to go to the market today," Jessica said. "Are you going to come with me?"

"Of course!" I replied immediately, shoving the last bite of my bagel into my mouth. I brushed my teeth and fixed my hair in the bathroom mirror one last time before announcing that I was ready.

"Amanda, while you were getting ready, I thought about it."

"About what?"

"About going to the market together," Jessica replied, "and I think we should go together. It would better if you went alone."

What?! Is she seriously abandoning me, making me shop all alone when there were knights looking for me?!

Jessica must have seen my horrified expression so she said, "In case the knights come earlier than we expect, it would be suspicious that no one's home. It's best if your in the market without me, so if the knights come they wouldn't be able to find you. What do you think?"

I really didn't want to do this. I didn't want to go alone! It wouldn't be safe...

"Fine," I huffed. I knew Jessica was doing this for own safety, but I still preferred to stay with Jessica. To be by her side.

"Please buy some cucumbers for me at the market. And maybe some carrots as well. Now you have to go, because the knights could be here any minute now!"

Jeez.

"I'll be on my way to the market now," I said.

Jessica nodded and handed me a bag. "Buy lots of cucumbers and don't return until I tell you to." Then she handed me a wallet full of cash.

"...!" So much cash!

Jessica then shoved me out of the front door, waving goodbye before slamming the door shut.
