Sydney POV

"What?!?!?" I growled at my older sister. "Tell me Ashlyn, did you two actually talk, or did you just fuck her first?!? Where was she, Ash, huh?? Where was she when you laid in a hospital bed in a coma? She was probably off filming some movie, making a name for herself, because she sure as shit didn't care about you. She didn't have to see you wrapped in bandages for months, her mother didn't pick her up from school, and she thought her sister was dead. SHE'S THE FUCKING REASON YOU REENLISTED, SHE'S THE FUCKING REASON YOU ALMOST DIED!!!"

"SHE HAS THOUGHT I WAS FUCKING DEAD FOR THE LAST 18 YEARS!!!" Ash roared over me. "My letters stopped coming. She kept writing. Her mother found out about us. She started hiding all my letters to her, and all of the letters she wrote to me. When Mom called Melanie to let her know I was alive, Melanie didn't tell the kids. Scarlett didn't know I came home 9 months later, she didn't know I reenlisted." her voice softened looking at me.

"Ash, you can seriously be this stupid?!?" I spat at her.

"REALLY?!? Do you want to read the letter she wrote to me? The ones I never got? Cause I know now what set Melanie off, all those years ago."

At this point, our Mother was standing between us. I looked over and saw Scarlett, tears streaming down her face, hand over her mouth, and in shock.

Huffing, I spun on my heel and walked off. I needed to calm down and clear my mind. Sitting in the sand, I let my mind drift back.

Walter Reed

I walked into my sister's room, seeing her this helpless, this weak. This is not my sister. Burn bandages cover her left shoulder and arm. She has bandages around her torso, her left leg I'm a cast. I sat beside her, listening to the machine beep, her heartbeat steady.

"Ashlyn, I know your stubborn ass is in there. I need you to wake up. Your baby sisters are graduating soon. We are going to college, and we need you there."

I held her right hand as tears flowed down my face. Leaning over, I take my book out, and start to read to my sister, as I have everyday for the past week.

Suddenly alarms started going off around Ash, and I looked at my sister, her eyes were open, and she was panicking.

"Ash, Ash, calm down. You're at Walter Reed. Calm down."

"Ma'am, please move. Let us get to her." I heard a nurse say.

"Col. McGuire, you are safe. You're in Walter Reed. If you will calm yourself, we will get this tube out of your throat."

While the nurse worked to calm Ash down, I stepped into the hall and called my Mom.

"Ma'am, you can come back in," the nurse said.

I looked at my sister. Her eyes staring at me and she smiled.

"Hiya Syd." she said softly, her voice raspy from the tube.

"Ash, you came back to us." I said, crying.

I held her hand till Mom, Dad, and Lauren arrived. Once we had all had a chance to hug her, she asked Dad about the convoy. Dad asked us all to leave the room.
