Chapter 38 - An Affair To Remember

POV: Scarlett

I felt bad for lying to Ash when I left this morning. Kevin had actually given me the day off, and I am currently sitting in my doctor's office.

"Mrs. Summers? The doctor is ready for you now," the nurse said as she called me back. She showed me to a small exam room, letting me know the doctor would be in shortly. I sat on the table, twiddling my thumbs and thinking of ways I could surprise Ashlyn.

"Mrs. Summers, Good morning, I am Dr. Riley. It's a pleasure to meet you," she said, shaking my hand.

"Please, call me Scarlett," I said, smiling at the woman.

"So, when you called, you mentioned you had done four at home tests, is that correct?"

"Yes, that is correct."

"When was your last cycle?"

"Honestly, I want to say it was while I was in Norway filming in June. I had my IUD removed in April."

"Ok, well, why don't you lay back, and we will do an ultrasound to see if we can determine how far along you may be."

I slipped back on the table, raising my top. Dr. Riley moved the machine closer, as she set things up.

"Ok, now this may be a little cold,' she said, squirting the jelly on my stomach. She turned on the machine and put the wand on my stomach, moving it around, and then I heard the little heartbeat.

"Oh my god," I whispered, as the image came on the screen. "Hi little bean."

"Well, it looks like you are around 10 weeks pregnant. Congratulations," she said, freezing the image on the screen. "I can print you a few copies to show your husband if you would like."

I smiled at the image, "Looks like what happens in Vegas, doesnt always stay in Vegas," I said, smiling at the memory. "Thank you, I know my wife would love to see these images. I plan on surprising her later."

"Your wife? Did you do In Vitro or a donor?" she asked, making notes.

"No, my wife is intersex. We conceived this baby the old fashion way," I said to her, smiling.

"Oh, that is fascinating. I have only known a few intersex people that have been able to sire offspring. You and your wife are very lucky."

"Thank you," I said, as she cleaned the jelly off my stomach.

"Now, how long will you be in Atlanta?"

"I am here, I know for at least six more weeks, then I will be back in New York."

"Ok, since you will only be here for six weeks, I will forward all the information to your doctor's in New York. They will probably want to see you at 16 weeks."

"When are you normally able to determine the sex of the baby?"

"Usually between 16-20 weeks is when we can tell if the baby cooperates," she said smiling.

"Thank you so much Dr. Riley, I really appreciate you working with me today," I said, shaking her hand.

"It was my pleasure, Mrs. Summers. If you have any problems while you are here, please give us a call." she said as she showed me out.

As I got in my car, I texted Lizzie and Flo, letting them know it had been confirmed. I also let Kevin know. I then decided to go shopping. I had an idea of what I was going to do to tell Ashlyn. I made a few phone calls and was told I could pick everything up in two hours.

I was about to call Lizzie to enlist her help, when a knock at my window startled me. "Oh my God, Alex, don't do that," I said as I rolled my window down.
