Chapter 19 - Galaxy Eyes

Lizzie's POV

It's such a beautiful day, and Ash's family is so, I don't know, I feel like I've known them my whole life. Her Mom, gosh I love her Mom.

"Penny for your thoughts, Miss Olsen?" I heard Alex say as she dropped beside me.

"Just thinking how beautiful it is here, and how sweet Ash's family is."

"They are the best, aren't they? I don't think I have ever met anyone quite like them."

"How long have you known them?"

"Ash and I served together. I joined in August of 2002 and was put with her unit. We did two tours together, and honestly, she is the reason I'm able to sit and talk to you today. She saved my life."

I look over at her, and I feel my breath catch, she is absolutely stunning. Her jet black hair, and God her eyes.

"What do you mean, she saved your life?"

"Our convoy hit an IED, Ash and I were in the lead vehicle, and I was driving. Ash took the brunt of the blast on her left side, but somehow she managed to pull me, and the two others from the vehicle, and keep us safe while under fire. I still don't know how she managed it. She's lucky she didn't lose her arm in the blast. I almost lost my leg. My left side was littered with shrapnel. Cracked ribs, collapsed lung, and I still have some shrapnel in my leg, but it doesn't bother me. That's how I met her family. Her Dad had all of us moved back to Walter Reed to recover. She's my best friend, and I would do anything for her." she says thoughtfully.

"I'm sorry you had to go through that Alex, but I'm thankful she saved your life."

"While we recovered, she would watch Scarlett's movies. I asked her why we were watching only her's, and that's when she told me about Scarlett. We had just finished OCS training when Ash found out Scarlett had married Ryan Reynolds. She was devastated, but she moved on, she met, I think her name was Cobie something."

"Cobie Smulders?!?"

"That's it! How do you know her?"

"Cobie works with Scarlett and I. She plays Agent Maria Hill in the Marvel films."

"Wow. Small world."

"Very."

"So, Miss Olsen, tell me about you."

"First, please call me Lizzie, and what can I tell you, that the internet hasn't already?"

"I would rather hear what you have to say. I never trust the internet."

"Well, I'm 30 years old, I enjoy gardening and cooking, and I was born and raised in California, and I just ended my engagement, because I caught my fiancé in bed with two women."

"I'm sorry about your engagement."

"No, it's ok. I think it's been over for a while. I've suspected he was cheating, but could never catch him. Now I have, I almost feel relieved. I'm sure my family will be relieved, they were not fond of him. My sisters especially."

"He's an idiot. Any man would be lucky to call you theirs."

I couldn't help but blush at her words, as a smile crept over my face. She was so easy to talk to, and she makes me feel so calm.

"Thank you Alex. That means a lot. It's not easy dating in my world. There is always some doubt, are they with me, because they care, or are they with me for the celebrity status, or how I can help their career."

"If someone truly loves you, it won't feel like that. There will be no doubt. What do I know, I'm a hopeless romantic, who believes everyone has a soul mate."
