"Why don't you come up and meet everyone?" Avery suggested as she handed me some grapes which I gratefully accepted. I was pretty hungry.

I hesitated for a moment before looking back up to see less heads than before. They probably went to see the other two people who came up before me. "Sure," I said finally.

"She's got goggles like you, Avery!" A girl with blonde hair said as we climbed up the wooden ladder.

"Nice horns!" Some other girl complimented. I have horns?

I wasn't really paying attention to what anybody else was saying after that. I was too focused on my surroundings.

The first thing I noticed were the giant stone walls that surrounded whatever this place was. Vines stretched from both the top of the walls and bottom of the walls. Some of the vines are even tall enough for you to climb all the way to the top.

Moving my attention away from the walls, I saw a luxurious green forest growing throughout the Clearing. I even saw a treehouse someone had built. The grass was a beautiful green color as well. This place had a bunch of people working on their own houses. There was a lake and waterfall in one corner of the Clearing, and it had dark wooden dock already built.

This place is gorgeous—apart from the walls of course.

"Hey, Avery? What's with the giant walls?" I asked looking back at the tan girl standing next to me.

She stopped speaking for a second, like she was uncertain if she should answer. "Here, let me show you." She finally said as she motioned for me to follow her.

Avery led me over to what looked like a giant opening. Like a gate of some sorts.

"This is the Maze," Avery stated looking inside of the Maze.

"Looks pretty," I said with a smile.

"Don't be fooled. There are traps inside it and two of our people have already almost died by one," Avery explained. "Nobody's gone in since."

"Well we need to go in and find a way out, right?" I questioned. Sure, it may be safe here in the Clearing, but I don't want to stay here. If it's a maze there has to be a way out.

"Of course, but for now nobody's going inside, especially alone. Maybe if it was a big group of people, sure." Avery said as she started to turn away to show me more places.

"Why not?" I asked surprising myself.

"Did you not hear the part about the traps?" Avery said looking at me again.

"I mean yeah there are traps, but they could be avoided easily. You guys know that, right?" I said. I failed to realize that it was now sunset. The sky that was once blue was now different shades of oranges and pinks. A cold breeze from inside the maze suddenly engulfed me. It was silent, so I didn't notice it at first, but then I saw it. The doors—the giant gate doors were closing.

I backed away a little bit to get a better look. You could see rusted cog wheels spinning around as the doors shut entirely.

"There's your answer," Avery said as I felt her hand be placed onto my shoulder.

"Avery! How's it coming with the other new person?" A boy called out from behind us. We both turned around to see a man with long-ish brown hair. He had on a leaf crown that fit perfectly around his head and a black cross earring in his left ear. He wore a green jacket that wrapped around a gray shirt. The gray shirt had a black star on it, and a green bandana also was around his neck. What is with these people and bandanas? Two light brown pouches were attached to his belt, and he had on brown boots with darker brown buckles. Just to top it off, dark blue jeans scrunched themselves along his legs.

"It's going good, Dylan! How's it going with the other two?" Avery responded with a cheerful smile.

It was a lot darker now and stars started to appear above the Clearing. The only light sources in the Clearing now where the torches scattered alongside the walls of buildings and the lanterns that hung from trees.

"It went good! They don't remember their names yet, but so far so good." The male named Dylan answered as he looked at the ground.

"I assume you don't remember your name yet?" Avery asked turning to me.

I thought for a moment—thought really hard, desperately trying to reach some sort of memory about who I was before this.

"Brielle," I said after at least 30 seconds of thinking, although it felt like it was an hour.

Avery raised her eyebrows, "Brielle? Is that your name?"

I silently nodded my head. Holy crap! I finally can remember something about myself!

"Well, Brielle, let me show you to the garden," Avery said in her normal British accent.

"Why you do that, I think I'm going to go to sleep." Dylan said as he then walked off in the direction of a poorly built cobblestone home. I hope he fixes it.

Avery waved goodbye to him and then proceeded to pick up a torch off of a nearby wall.

"This way!" Avery called and I jogged over to her. Avery led me into a part of the Clearing that lined up against the side of the Maze wall. There was a small stream of water than ran throughout all the plants. I found it comforting—somewhat peaceful the way the water almost showed a perfect reflection of the torch. The garden was pretty, like everything else in the Clearing and almost mesmerizing.

I walked over and picked up some cotton that was ready to be harvested. The fluffy piece of material rested in my hand as I let out a soft laugh. I can see why people would want to stay here.

"Who put us in here?" I asked as I walked around the garden some more. There was a barrel filled with a bunch of other plants that I assumed were extra pieces that nobody was using.

"Now that we don't know," Avery said sadly as she looked at the stream of water running through the ground.

Avery looked up at the sky and said, "It's getting late. You should get some rest and I'll introduce you to some people tomorrow and show you around a little more. Would you like to stay at my place for your first night?"

I smiled. "Thank you so much for the offer, but I think I'll just sleep in a tree near this garden. I'll catch up with you sometime in the morning!" I explained as I started looking for a tree to sleep in.

Avery returned the smile, "Sure! Just don't fall out of the tree please." I giggled at that comment and watched as Avery ran off towards her own home.

I crawled into a tree that wasn't right by the garden, but close enough to still be able to hear the stream of clear water. It was a refreshing sound, but I wonder where it came from. I'll figure it out someday, but for now I need to sleep.

I shifted into a position I found comfortable and sighed as I watched the stars above me fade away, and I let my eyes slowly shut.
