*Before you read this, just want to clarify something. This is a technically a book based on if there was a fourth clearing. This is not about the clearing that got frozen over. I called it The Third Clearing because it is basically the third clearing with people. Enjoy. :]*
⚠️TW: Swearing⚠️
"Hello?" Was the first thing that came out of my mouth as I listened to the fading echo of my own voice. It was dark, and I don't exactly know where I am. All of the sudden, I heard a loud grinding noise and something that sounded like an elevator. I walked towards the light of a torch that I could see around the corner of the small hallway I was in.
When I turned the corner, I could see a tiny area with smooth stone lining the walls and...voices? Yes, voices! Someone's here!
I walk out into the area and immediately see a lever next to me that was flicked downwards. I looked up and saw a platform raising. What the hell? I couldn't see anything above them since the platform was blocking the view, but there were definitely people up there.
"Hello?" I called up to whoever it was. They stopped talking for a few seconds before I heard the echoing of a male whisper, "Oh crap! We left someone!"
I sighed and leaned against the wall. Maybe this thing will come back down.
"We're sorry!" A girl called from on the stone platform.
A loud bang sounded throughout the tiny place and the grinding from earlier had stopped. I looked up to see the platform now at the top, though it was hard to see from all the way down here.
There wasn't much down here anyways. Actually, there's literally nothing down here but the hallway I came through, the lever next to me, and a few torches. Maybe I should grab a torch.
I walked over to one of the torches on the wall and grabbed it's stick. I proceeded to lift it up out of it's place holder. The orange light illuminated my face as the flames licked the air around me.
Fire.
Something was on fire before I came here. I have no idea what, but I think something was on fire. I don't remember anything else. Hell I don't even remember my own name! How is that even possible?!
All of the sudden, the grinding noise started up again and I watched as the platform was on its way back down. I quickly moved back over by the lever. I may not remember anything about myself, but whoever sent me here at least let me keep common sense. I'm not getting crushed by some stupid stone platform.
The platform landed back here at the bottom a few moments later. I would go back and try and get out of here, but the exit is blocked. The only way I can go is upwards. Now that the platform was back down here I could see that there are barrels and crates stacked on top of each other. I looked back up to see multiple shadows of what looked like heads at the top. Sunlight poured through the tiny openings of trap doors at the top. At least I can remember what things are.
I stepped onto the platform, definitely not ready to go wherever it is. I still have the torch in my hand just in case someone tried to attack me. I reached out and flipped the lever back upwards causing a small rumble before the lift started moving back up. I almost lost my balance because of the shake, but quickly caught myself.
I held the torch closer to myself as the lift continued to head to the top. I held onto a crate as I walked over to the edge. I immediately turned back at the sight. It's like a 50 foot drop! Maybe more! I shivered and went back into the middle of the platform.
I can't help but feel a bit nervous. These people, I don't know who they are. For all I know they could have put me down here in the first place! At least someone apologized to me for leaving me down here, but it could all be an act.
When the lift arrived at the top, it was pretty clear to me that the heads were people. The sun was shining brightly as someone opened one of the trapdoors. I backed up a little and held out my torch to show that I'm not afraid to use it.
I could see the figure of a girl through the fire of the torch.
"Woah, hey. Maybe you can put that down?" The girl asked in a British accent.
"Who are you?!"I asked sternly, making sure it didn't sound like I was scared even though I was.
"My name's Avery, and I'm not going to hurt you," The girl named Avery said. I reluctantly lowered my torch so I could get a better look at her. She had light brown hair that was medium length. She was wearing a dark gray bandana around her neck and four of the same colored hair ties, two on each wrist. Dark gray goggles rested on her head. Her light and dark gray striped shirt fit well with her short light colored jeans. Her sword sat on her back, ready to take someone down if it needed to. The sun reflected off of her emerald colored eyes, and her tennis shoes looked really comfortable as they sat on her feet.
She doesn't seem harmful. "Where am I?" I asked the torch now fully at my side.
"Well, we call this place the Clearing," Avery said with a smile. A hand shot out signaling for me to take it. I smiled a little and took it.
