I awoke to the sound of shuffling coming from my kitchen. A loud slam of one of my cabinets caught me off guard and I slowly slid off of my bed. Floorboards creaked from underneath the intruder's footsteps as they stalked around the house.I carefully tiptoed to the archway that led to the other room. Unfortunately, I accidentally stepped on one of the loose boards on my way and a loud creak sounded throughout the house. It was so quiet, I could probably hear my own heartbeat if I really tried to. It sounded like both me and the Intruder stopped as if waiting for the next move to be made.
A sudden pound of running footsteps caused me to move into action, sprinting into the kitchen only to get a glimpse of a small amount of hair before the front door slammed shut. I quickly ran over to the door and yanked it open only to see nobody in sight. The intruder is lucky it's nighttime or else I could've seen the color of the piece of hair. At least that would've helped narrow down whoever it is. What were they doing in my house?
I turned my head to the kitchen, closing the front door behind me.
On the counter sat the same basket of food from earlier. There was a piece that fell out of the basket from how quickly the intruder set the basket down.
What time is it?
I walked over to the backpack I had set on the ground and pulled out my clock. It was almost morning, which means that the intruder has a place to sleep. They came here in the morning because they were sleeping the whole night. But where?
I set my clock back in the backpack and then picked up the carrot that fell from the basket and placed it back with the other vegetables. Soft cotton surrounded the pointy edges on the top of the basket so it wasn't too sharp. There was also a small vine with flowers on it that wrapped around the handle. Whoever made this spent time on it.
I'll just go back to sleep until it's completely morning. My eyes are droopy and I'm extremely exhausted. I don't even know if what I saw actually happened.
I silently plopped myself back onto my bed and shut my eyes.

"Hey, Avery?" I asked as I walked over to the familiar brunette girl.
"Yeah?"
"I need to talk to you about something," I said motioning over to my house. She turned to Claire who was with her and Claire nodded. Avery flashed her a smile before we made our way to my house.
"Something wrong? You okay?" She asked as I shut the front door.
"Somebody left me this last night," I said walking over to the basket. "I then shoved it into the cabinet and this morning the person came back and took it out again before running away." I explained. Avery studied the food in the basket.
"No hints as to who did it?" She asked.
"Nothing. I have no idea who would spend this much time decorating the basket besides Gulia or Amber but I don't think they would sneak into my house to do it. I didn't want to tell anybody anything because they could blame me for this," I stated.
"That's understandable with the way everyone is acting. So whoever put this here is the person stealing the food?" Avery said more as a statement than a question.
"Yup."
"Okay, let's think for a moment. How can we try and see who is doing this?" Avery mumbled as she started to pace back and forth. Avery likes to pace when she thinks, and I used to do it too before I got tired of it.
"Not a trap, we don't want to hurt whoever it is." I stated. "Definitely nothing that could destroy my house either."
"We could try to set up some kind of trap where it hangs whoever it is from the ceiling by their feet?" Avery offered.
"Wouldn't that hurt someone?" I questioned.
"Not if you do it properly. I don't see many other options though," She explained.
"Do you know how to make that kind of trap?" I asked as she started to walk over to the crafting bench in the corner of my kitchen.
"Sure do!" She said. "At least, I think I do."
