Sorry for not publishing yesterday. I was watching MCC lol.
The meetings have stopped. I've been looking over everything from the balcony, and occasionally getting on top of my roof to watch the stars at nighttime. I added a ladder that leads up to the roof from my balcony just so I don't have to struggle to get up there anymore. I almost fell once since I had to step onto the railing and pull myself up, but it's alright now.
Ever since the meetings have stopped, everyone has been kind of avoiding each other. Claire's come to visit and check up on my hand every once in a while. I'm worried though because nobody's ever acted like this towards one another before. Not even when Liam went missing. Avery's been trying to speak to people, but everyone seems to just end the conversation short.
Claire says it should be about one more day until my hand has fully healed. I've been able to hold things now, just as long as I do it carefully it shouldn't hurt.
"Hey Brielle," Liam said as he walked next to me on the balcony. I guess I was so focused on my own thoughts that I didn't see Liam come into my house. He rested his arms on the railing and squinted his eyes from the sun as he began to look around too.
"Hey Liam," I responded. It was silent for a few moments as we both enjoyed the sight ahead of us. Liam let out a firm nod before sighing.
"Something weird is going on here in the Clearing," Liam finally said.
"What exactly did you guys all talk about during those meetings?" I asked. Liam hadn't been there for all of them, and nobody but Claire has come to say hello to me. Liam's been to more meetings than Claire has though, so I assume he knows more.
"Stuff. Nothing too interesting," Liam replied.
"Surely there's something that's making everyone avoid each other," I ushered on.
"Well, Isla and Tanner had an argument. That threw everyone off since the two came up together and what not," Liam stated. "I guess everyone's scared the same thing will happen to their own friendships. I don't trust anybody though, and I don't have many friends. Maybe Dylan is somebody I can call a friend, but he still gives off the wrong vibes sometimes. How's the hand doing?"
"It's doing okay. Claire says I'll be able to take off the bandage tomorrow. Two weeks being cooped up in this house is boring," I explained.
"Why'd you have to stay in here in the first place?" Liam asked.
"Claire says it's dangerous around the Clearing. She claims that there are too many things that can damage my hand more or something," I answered.
He nodded. "She's definitely right about that one."
"Avery doesn't seem to mind the whole argument thing," I said.
"She's Avery," Liam pointed out and I smiled.
"Well, she's also the person I trust the most," I commented. "Has anybody been in the Maze at all?"
"Me, Tanner, and Thomas have. They wanted to see what changed. Dylan's leg is getting a whole lot better, but he still doesn't want to go back into the Maze. I can't blame the guy, it must've been scary. I've just been in to make sure nobody goes the wrong way and dies. I've also made sure that nobody goes in the direction of the levers and wooden gate. That place is a whole new level of dangerous. There's double the traps and everything. Scary," He explained. Double the traps? How is that even possible? There are already tons around every corner you turn and some of them you can't even get around. I do appreciate the fact that Liam went in to make sure they're okay, that's good.
"Why are you here?" I asked suddenly, surprisingly myself.
"What? Can't check up on the leader of the runners?" Liam smirked.
I rolled my eyes. "You never check up on me. You said it yourself, you don't have friends besides Dylan."
"And that wasn't a lie. I'm just tired of making sure they don't die in the Maze," Liam explained with a shrug.
"What makes you think I can keep them from dying?" I retorted.
"Because I drew out the Maze directions," Liam said. I forgot he did that. "I've gotta head out now. Meeting with Tanner and Thomas to discuss things about the Maze. I'll let you know anything else afterwards if there's something you don't know. Looking forward to you being out of your house tomorrow," Liam said as he picked his arms up and started to make his way out of the house. I waved to Liam as he walked down the steps and headed into the forest.
