⚠️TW: Swearing⚠️
I went with the original plan, Avery and Claire as my votes for the Clearing, and Thomas and Devyn as my votes for the Maze.
I knew Avery would run, and I knew I'd end up voting for her. She's perfect for the role! I mean, she kind of already has the job and she is really good at it!
I don't know what I'm going to do for the rest of the day until nighttime. I could go help around the Clearing, but I feel like somebody would accuse me of cheating.
I could try and dig out a room underground for whenever we end up mapping the Maze out. No matter who wins, people will be allowed to go into the Maze. I don't know about anybody else, but I want to map it out so we don't get lost.
Another option is to go and explore more parts of the Clearing. I've been here for at least a week now, and I somehow still haven't seen the entire Clearing.
Another option is to go fishing and get food for the Clearing to eat. I remember Denis showing me a pond in the forest that had fish in it.
Okay, maybe there are a lot of things to do around the Clearing, and I will get to all of them eventually. Right now, though, I don't feel like doing much exploring or building. I kind of just want to relax a bit, so I think I'm going to go with the fishing option.
I walked over to the crafting bench in the corner of the kitchen I built in my house. I opened the cabinet above me and took out some string. I set a stick down on the crafting bench and then looked back through the cabinet to try and find a hook. I don't exactly know why I'd have a hook in my cabinets, but I have a bunch of random things in there.
After making my fishing rod, I made my way towards the forest and in the direction of the pond.
The pond isn't as big as the lake is, but it's also not really small. When Denis showed me it the other day, it was clean water and you could see the fish swimming freely in the water.
However, when I arrived at the pond today, it was a little dirtier. I mean, you can still see the fish, but the water is a little less clear. It's probably from the dirt. It is surrounded by a bunch of trees and grass after all.
There was a tree sitting a few feet away from the pond, so I went and sat down underneath it, letting it's shadow tower over me.
I reeled my rod back and tossed it into the pond a decent amount of distance. Sitting isn't the best position for fishing, but it's definitely more comfortable.
Wait. How do I know sitting isn't a good position? And how the hell did I know how to make a fishing rod?!
I felt a light tug on my rod, which dragged my attention back to the fishing line. Although it might hurt, I quickly reeled the line back in to see a decent sized fish dangling from the hook. It flipped it's tail around and a bit of water still left on it's tail splashed in my face, making me giggle a little bit. It didn't hurt my arm as much as I thought it would.
I gently took the fish off the hook—which again confuses me on how I know how to do that—and set it inside of the white box next to me that had some ice in the bottom of it. It stopped flapping around, and I couldn't help but feel a tad bit bad for the little guy as I watched him slowly stop moving a few seconds after I put him in the ice.
I closed the lid and casted my line out again.
I only ended up catching five more fish. I've sat here for at least an hour now, and I keep letting the fish slip away! Maybe fishing just isn't my thing. I'll give it two more gos.
I watched my line fly through the air and plop into the water for the one hundredth time, the ripples moving away from the fishing bait.
After nothing came up, I switched spots just to give it one last run.
