⚠️TW: Swearing⚠️
•Two Months later•
"Somebody is taking food from the garden and isn't replanting it! If what Miles said is true, which is a big if, and somebody broke a hole that leads to the other side of that damn wall, people should stay in there and try to get it to happen again!" Dylan yelled.
"We will find whoever is doing this-" Claire started to try and reason before she was cut off.
"Then what?! Huh?! Then what will happen to that person?!" Tanner argued.
"Will you all just please calm down?" Avery asked calmly.
"No! We will not calm down Avery! It's your job to help us here, and your not doing a very good job!" Dylan shouted causing Avery to look away from him.
"Woah! Avery is doing the very best she can but it's hard for her because you guys keep shoving more and more situations onto her plate!" I exclaimed. It was the first time I talked to anybody in a long while, so when I yelled, it took Dylan by surprise. I saw Avery look at me out of the corner of my eye. "You can handle this situation without her help, so why don't you stop yelling at her and let her take a break that she very much deserves!"
There was silence for a moment before I broke it again, "Me and Avery will be taking our leave now." I got up from my chair and started walking towards Avery's house, and I heard Avery's soft footsteps in the grass behind me as she followed. It didn't take very long for to be by my side.
"Thank you, Brielle. You didn't have to say any of those things," Avery started, but I quickly shut her down.
"Of course I had to! They were getting mad at you for a dumb reason, and I didn't want you to feel stressed out about it or anything," I said flashing her a smile which she gratefully returned.
"I'm glad we're friends," she said as we stepped into her home. The only person I've been talking to in the Clearing ever since me and Miles spent the night in the Maze, is Avery. I guess I've spoken to Miles too, but mainly Avery. I don't know why, but I seem to think about a lot of things whenever I'm around her. Like a bunch of cogwheels in my head start turning faster whenever she's near.
I've gotten a small memory back. It was of me eavesdropping on my mother and little sister. I was like 21 or something and I heard my mom tell my little sister something about a person — I don't know who since the voices were muffled — that would come and get her if she didn't do her chores. I didn't get to see my mother, I just heard her lovely voice. Apparently I have a little sister, too.
"You should get some rest. It's getting late and you've been really busy these past months," I said. She smiled and waved me goodnight as I turned and started walking back to my own house. I looked over at the meeting table and saw that a few other people left when me and Avery did. I can hear the yelling as I walked by it.
The Map Room hasn't been touched ever since the wall arrived. There may be some cobwebs down there because of that, so there's another thing to deal with eventually.
On my way to my house I noticed the large stone sticking out of the ground with a sign on it. That piece of stone is my least favorite thing in whole Clearing. It was made by Gulia and Amber since after another month of waiting for Liam to return, they gave up hope. They made the grave with his name on it, and every time I walk by it, I want to destroy it, crumble it into a million different pieces, and take each of those pieces and throw them as hard as I possibly can into the Maze wall.
I sighed and sped up my walking.
I opened the door to my house and stopped as I saw a basket of food from the garden sitting on my table. Food that has been taken and we no longer have any of.
The food started disappearing about a week ago. Well that's when we first noticed it. It could've been disappearing before that and we just haven't noticed it until a week ago.
So why is there some sitting on my table right now?
Is the person taking the food trying to put the blame on me or something? If somebody walks into my house right now and they see that, they may think I am the one stealing the food.
I dropped my backpack down and grabbed the basket of food. I proceeded to open up one of my cabinets and stuff the basket inside before quickly closing it.
I started to search my whole house to see if whoever put the food left some kind of hint as to who they are. Nothing.
I looked out my window and saw that everyone was gone from the meeting table and probably headed to their houses for the night.
Everything in the Clearing has been so problematic ever since me and Miles went into the Maze. People yelling at each other, people forcing each other to tell them their secrets, arguing about whether or not somebody should go back into the Maze overnight, and both Avery and Claire have been trying to resolve it all.
I miss when things were just simple and everyone would be having fun and it would be peaceful here.
The meals every other night from Isla and Devyn started to rapidly decrease due to lack of food and resources. Iron has been harder to find, and so has coal. Old buildings are starting to get taken over by nature.
Everything just feels so gloomy, and sad. Everything has gone wrong ever since Liam went missing and everyone is dealing with it in their own ways. Some better than others.
Why can't we just all get along?!
