Chapter 20 A Snake vs a Cat

I was running as hard as I could. A blur of grey trees rushed past me. But I didn't know where I was going all I knew is that I had to find her.

Teased of iron filled my mouth, my legs burn from overuse, and branches scraped my coat. I stopped in my tracks as I hear branches snapping. A grey furry creature ran past me and kept running forward.

It was a cat. "Why the fuck is there a cat out here?" I was confused. But then I could hear Viper running.

I knew she could smell Airmed, while I had every disadvantage against me. But the way Viper was running she was running behind the cat.

Then I finally realized, that's was an Airmed cat. I started to run chasing after the cat. Viper ran past it and kept going but the car stopped and I could see its ears twitching. It turned and went left in a sprint I quickly followed. I pushed even harder to get caught up with the grey cat.

After running he would stop and twice his ears and then start running again. I felt like we were going in circles until I hear Viper curse at top of her lungs.

I shook my head and kept going. Finally, the car and I made it into a clearing almost like an empty Grove.

The cat stopped and kept turning its head and twitching its ears. "Come one cat! Where is she!?" The cat turned to me and looked back into the middle and then ran. But it looked like it was lost in the tall grass.

"FUCKKKKK!" I ended growled out my frustrations. But then I saw Viper run past me and into the middle. Just like the cat she was lost.

"She has to be here!"  I was about to run to the grass when I her muffling.

"Da-bi" is my name. She was choking on my name. I ran to the spot before everything went quiet. Once last cough before I felt a grasp on my arm to pull me away.

"Snooze you lose ling!" I stumbled backward from the force. Viper stood over loose dirt. "I win." She mocked me.

I finally snapped. I set the whole grove a flame. I couldn't hear anything except the roar of the blue flames burning everything.

"Fuck!" I could hear her scream but she stayed on the dirt so the flames wouldn't touch her.

I charged at her and was going to fight hand to hand if I had to. I could hear Airmed cough once again as a small whimper muffled its way out of the dirt. My heart was thumping I could feel the crazed look on my face grow as I watched Viper tries to dance around the flames.

I was going to win this. I HAVE to win this. Viper turned to me. "You fucking idiot your gonna burn this hole place down!"

Her venomous words didn't even bother me. She jumped at me and bit into my lip, as she tried to grab me. I could take the hot, bitter taste as venom dripped into my left bottom lip.

I grabbed her sides and lit her a flame. She finally let go when blood-curdling screams filled the air. Her body dropped to the ground twitching with lifeless eyes.

The smell of burning grass was tainted by the smell of burning flesh. I watched as her bloody body boiled and turned to ash. The only that brought me out of the blackout was I heard scratching and mewing.

The grey cat came into focus on the dirt digging. I quickly ran over and started dring the dirt up with my hands. In a shallow grave maybe a foot down there was a wooden box.

The cat was franticly clawing at it so I did what I did best. I burned a hole into it to grab a hold of it. I swung it away and there I saw the girl. Her eyes were shut and sweating. Her breathing was barely there and her hands were bloody from clawing at the wood.

I knelt and grabbed her. She was still in her sleepwear of a tank top and sweats. I shuffled her a round until I was able to run with her. She was a lot heavier than the girls around here. But it was the squishiness I like.

I ran until we were out of the forest but finally, my legs were buckling underneath me. Falling and watching Airmed hit the ground and roll in front of me.

"Fuck fuck." I crawled over to her. Her face was pained but I could see she was still breathing. But me on the other side I was tasting blood. The viper was a boomslang-based snake.

The only part she got me was one puncture on my lip. I knew it went all the way through and made a hole but her venom was inside.

I could feel the burning, but I still have to save Airmed. I'll worry about it later. With a loud crash of thunder, it poured, extinguishing the flames.

I was about to reach Airmed again when the grey cat stood in front of her and hissed at me. I was thrown off guard for a moment but ignored it. I tried to reach for her again and the cat batted at me. I quickly pulled my hand away and stared.

The cat just sat there with his back arched hissing at me. "Look this isn't my fault, you little shit." The cat spat at me once more.

I knew what the cat was thinking as much as I didn't want to admit it. It was my fault. If my heart didn't scream out for Airmed then maybe I could have just had my dick wet and then moved on.

But no, for once my heart was winning the war with my body. Every time I see her I just wanna hold her. Yeah, she is nothing but a stupid naive girl but, it's her innocent and willing heart that makes the world seem less dull to me.

"Look I'm sorry. Alright. I'm sorry-" I stopped when I saw Airmed's face scrunch up and then relaxed. I saw the blue haunted eyes pierce through her lashes.

"Da-bi?" Her voice sounds so far away. But she was there right in front of me. She moved slightly but I was about to push her back down.

Rain pour on us, I could see the seam rolling off my skin as the rain hit it. But I could see a few flames dance in her eyes. The blue orbs moved and locked on to me.

"Did..... Did you do-" she slowly sat up and I turned my face from her.

"Am I a monster now?" I scoffed at my own words. For once I felt guilty, did I let her down? Does she think lesser of me?

She was quiet for a moment and then whispered "look at me." At first, I looked at her through my peripheral and then slowly moved my head to face her.

Her eyes looked so pure and welcoming still. Nothing changes the way she looked at me. "Your eyes aren't of a monster Dabi. I've seen monsters, and you..... You're not one of them."

I felt my heart stop. I choked on the air. But the choke set my body on fire. The venom made it's course and of course, it made its way to my lungs.

I start coughing up blood. I saw Airmed's eyes widen as she jumped up and kneeled before me. I tried to push her away but the coughing was making me weak. I closed my eyes.

If I was gonna die right now, then at least I knew Airmed didn't hate me, I knew she was safe away from that damn snake. But then I felt my heart pound, reminding me of that one man.

I couldn't die. At least not yet. My goal was shoved to the back burner so I can handle hers and she wasn't done with her goal.

I gasped for air but it was quickly covered up by soft lips. Unlike the bitter taste of venom, this was sweet and loving.

My eyes stung open as my body felt like it was being cooled down. I knew what she was doing and I tried to pull away. But Airmed had her eyes closed and she followed me to the ground.

Even with me laying down she was on top still kissing me. Healing me. Finally, when she broke the kiss she sat up. There on her was the open wound on her left bottom lip.

It was only a matter of time before the venom ran through her. I sprung up and started yelling at her. "Why!?" But she just sat there and smiled at me.

"Because I think I fell in love with you. Every time I turn around you are there... Every time I close my eyes, you are there." Her words went right through me.

Love? What is love? Surely I knew what it was and it wasn't something for me. As I sat there dumbfounded about her confession she started coughing.

She went to cover it but I saw the blood leak through her fingers. I jumped up and grabbed her pulling her close to me. "We have to get you to a hospital!" Her eyes fluttered shut. "Airmed? AIRMED!? FUUUUCK!"
