The longer I wait the more I can't seem to stay still. I hate waiting, waiting crawls up my body like fire ants. With each second ticking by I'm left only to watch as the shuffling bodies of guards pass by back and forth, careful in their steps to avoid any possible chance of delay. I sometimes wonder what they think of all of us, well maybe not me but Nicholas and Max for example. To serve without any love or friendship, a simple string of loyalty holding up each-other's lives and yet, you'd think eternal beings do in fact exist with the way they carelessly go about themselves. A door opens against the white wall, drawing all attention towards it along with mine as I pray it's anyone but Donte. The moment his body comes out the dim lit room my stress completely melts the frost off my muscles. He grins as his stride brings him closer to me.
"Are we planning the down fall of someone because if so, details, the more the better too"
"Not today" I smile pulling him behind some stacked crates "but then again it is only morning"
"Okay so....if we're not planning a genocide. what are we doing?" He whispers suddenly. He's so going to regret asking that.
My lips are probably doing a better job at lying than my face right now "I need a favour"
"No" he quickly deadpans "kidding, obviously, continue"
I take in a deep breath taking one more glance around "if and when Donte asks about me and Nicholas, could you maybe sort of tell him that we still hate each other?" I smile wider with instant fear. Oh God he's going to freak out.
"So- okay right. So, you want me. To lie to DONTE. The scariest man I've ever come across, because you don't wanna tell him you're sleeping with his grandson. Did I get that right?" His voice rises as the rest of him stays inhumanly still.
"Yeah, yeah basically" I whisper under my breath.
"Right, right. Well it was nice knowing you I'll just go and start digging my own grave now I guess" he shrugs before walking out from our cover but I jump right after him, pulling his ass right back.
"Fine, wait please, look. Don't lie, but also maybe don't tell him the whole entire truth at least"
"Mia-"
"Please Max. He's pissed as it is, I don't want to be the reason why he starts on him again, please" he doesn't respond but he also doesn't say no. The anticipation is killing me but I know I'm asking for a lot so I stand quiet letting the ants chew through bones and all.
"You know I can't say no to you, but Mia I swear if I get killed-"
"I won't let that happen dumbass" I chuckle rolling my eyes "thank you. Seriously, thank you" he shakes his head smiling back at me.
"Yeah yeah whatever. Can we stop hiding now?"
"Oh, right" I suddenly remember my tight surroundings. It's not like this was the ideal spot, his garage was like the last place I thought off but what was I supposed to do? Meet in the house? Where Nicholas can quite literally pop out of nowhere and Donte overhear my begging plea? Exactly. I peep out slowly but someone's hands grabs onto the back of my shoulders pushing me forward and out into the open. I gasp turning around finding Max shaking his head.
"We're not kidnapped you know. Pretty sure no one's about to drag you into some underground secret interrogation room"
"No you're absolutely right. I'll just be shot on sight for conspiracy instead"
He chuckles dryly "that was funny"
"Why?" Suddenly hiding becomes a dire need rather than just a thirty second cover for a brief conversation "because I'm right?"
