📚
"Hey Max" I walk through the busy lobby to where Max is seated with a cup of coffee sitting cold on his right, his head lifts at his name.
"Oh Mia hey" he moves some of the papers to the side that he has littered the small café table with it giving me some room.
"What is all of this anyways" I pull out a chair opposite him sitting down.
"This" he sighs "is every hospitals records of all patients with extensive trauma"
"And you went over all of these?"
"Yeah and nothing" he throws the papers he had in his hands onto the messy table in frustration, he slouches down rubbing his tired eyes.
"That's not what I care about right now" his eyes meet mine confused "when was the last time you slept?"
He stops moving to think like it's the hardest question he's been asked "Max"
"I don't know, maybe on the jet?"
"Max" I feel like the shitiest person on earth right now and I deserve it "come on, come with me"
"No I can't I need to finish these, there's six more hospitals I haven't checked I'm so clo-"
"I don't care about that right now, you haven't slept for three days and I'm guessing I shouldn't even ask if you've eaten anything either" I get up walking to him.
"Mia-"
"Get up or I'll drag you" he looks up not sure if I'm being serious or not but when I don't move away he tilts his head sideways.
"Has anyone ever told you that you can be real bossy sometimes?"
"On a daily basis now up you get" carefully taking his arm I pull him out of the chair, he nearly loses balance but I lift him up before he could hit the floor. Some people look our way confused as to what is wrong but honestly people need mind their own fucking business.
"What floor are you on?" I ask walking us to the elevator.
"Five wait no-six or actually five" he mumbles as his head hangs low unable to keep it up anymore.
"Right, so ..... five or six?"
"Six, definitely six"
I hit the button for floor six hoping it's actually his floor "let's hope your right because if I leave you in a room that belongs to a 90 year old women, it's on you"
"Noted" he chuckles, the doors opens and I pull him into the room he supposedly say is his.
"Okay easy" he basically drops dead the second he sees the bed "right" I sigh looking at him as he's spread all over the bed "sleep tight"
"I'll just be five minutes" he mumbles out shoving his arms under his pillows, I only smile at him taking a second to appreciate him alone. Max doesn't know me and yet has fought by my side without me asking him to. You don't find a Max very easily anymore, but the world would benefit if there were more of him.
I close the door behind me. I make my way back down to the table that seems to be untouched with Nicholas sitting where Max was just moments ago.
"Max is officially dead asleep" I sit back down surrounded by a whole mess.
"Look at this one" he hands me a paper and I take it "what does it look like to you?"
It takes me a second to figure out what he means but it's clear as day when you know what you're looking for.
"They payed off the hospital to stay quiet" I scoff.
"Look at the docs name" he's smiling, why is he smiling?
Once again I lift the paper up taking a second look "Doctor Richard Piers" I set it down looking at him still confused "am I meant to know who that is?"
"No, but I do and he's hosting a party" he sits back into his chair "tonight"
And now I'm the one smiling "looks like we'll be paying a visit to doctor Piers then"
"Yes we will be but we'll also be late"
"What do you mean?"
"My men are already on their way but they won't make it in time for the party, we'll just have to visit him after it finishes"
"No"
"No?" he raises his eyebrows.
"No, you can't send a man to do a women's job, do you really think he'll give up where Rayan is to a random six foot guy over one drink?"
"No" he says simply like this is final.
"You're acting as if this is the most dangerous thing I'll ever do Nicholas"
"It's not that I don't think you can do it Amore, it's that I can't"
Now I'm confused.
"If he touched you even on accident I don't think I could stop myself from taking off his head clean right there and then"
"Good thing he won't be touching me then"
"Mia-"
"Trust me"
"I do bu-"
"Then you have nothing to worry about"
"All I'm saying is I don't mind brining down the whole block with everyone inside if he tries anything"
"I might be bossy but you my love are very controlling" I smile sitting back into my own chair.
"And you don't like that?" his eyes narrow.
"Oh quite the opposite" his smile mirrors mine and I know that if it weren't for the crowd of people, things would be looking very different right now.
"There's a gym downstairs" he says out of nowhere.
"So?"
"So I remember you saying something along the line of how you were better?"
"I did and I am"
"Well then" he stands up towering over me entirely "care to show me?" his hand stretches down to me, I look at it before glancing back at his smirking face, I take it standing up.
"With pleasure Nicholas, with pleasure" I stand up taking the papers with us.
"After you then" he moves to the side slightly allowing me to pass by and as I do a man in front of me seems to have been staring at me as if he were a dog with a bone in front of him, me being the bone apparently.
As I pass by I hear something bang, I spin back seeing Nicholas fixing his sleeve walking towards me. As his body moves I see the man unconscious laying face flat against the table with blood spilling from somewhere that I can't see.
A hand captures my own "come on" I look up to him smiling as he pulls me to the gym.
This man has serous issues but I have it worse because it doesn't scare me or make me wanna run the other way. It makes me only want to give him everything he wants.
I'm down bad.
