The moment the car pulled over we both got our walking straight into the entrance but nothing seem is out of place. Leo comes next to Nicholas whispering something only he can hear and whatever it is has sent a murdering shadow over his face, he looks back to me trying to seal everything he can but there's no point. I already know somethings wrong.

"What's wrong?"

"I can't explain right now but I will, I'll explain everything when I get back I promise" he begins to walk back to the car.

"Wait what no" I pull him back "you can't just run off "

"Amore I wouldn't leave if it wasnt important I need you to trust me" trust huh "please" he pleads taking my face closer to his "I'll be back in just a moment" his soft skin feels like the sun against mine. I don't want him to go, I want this moment to last.

"Just" I don't know how to do this "just be careful, okay?" I look at him and he smiles.

"Always" he nods kissing me gently before theres no longer someone in front of me and the car screeches out of view.

"Mia?" Max's voice yells from behind me, I spin around lifting my arms in confusion "I don't even know myself but he's made everyone watch you till he's back"

"What the fuck!" I'm beyond confused and terrified, not for me or what's going on but for him, I just want him back.

"He'll be okay, it's him" Max laughs trying to cheer me up but I know something is right "Mia?"

"Something isn't right Max, I don't know how to explain it but something just isn't right" I need guns, I rush over to the elevator and Max sprints right after me.

"Mia wait where are you going?"

Whatever it is I can't help but shake this feeling that it's coming here. I may be paranoid but that's what has kept me alive for all of this time, I get in the elevator pressing for our floor but right before the doors shut Max jumps in.

"Talk to me Mia"

"I can't explain it you're just going to have to trust me" ironic Mia.

"You know I do" he says ever so gently catching me off guard.

"Then just do what I do and if I'm wrong we can laugh about this when we're old and married with kids running around okay?" I laugh as he smiles.

"Okay, what's the plan?" the doors open and we rush to my room.

"Guns, lots and lots of guns" I pull a case out from under the bed "take only what you can carry, we don't need extra weight" as he loads up I take my knives strapping them to my thighs before checking the double barrel pistols if they're loaded but of course they are, it's his after all.

"Now what?"

"Roof"

"This way" I follow him out to the staircase, it's only like thirty steps until we reach it. The door swings wide open and the fresh air feels more like a first breath than anything else, it's cold and thick, fast but full, I needed this.

"Mia I have to say this-"

"What? That this seems like a mental breakdown?" I turn around as he takes a seat on one of those metal vents putting his gun by his side, he twist his face apologetically "look" I walk over taking a seat in front of him "Donte raised me to trust my instincts and not to just turn them off and hope for the best, you think I'd still be here if I did that?" I scoff at even thinking about it.

"I'm just saying, we have this whole place on lockdown and you're with Bane, I don't think you understand how untouchable you really are Mia"

"Max let's be honest, no one is or will ever be untouchable and look at it this way, if I'm wrong who will it hurt"

He sighs nodding "okay yeah"

"So what did you do while we were gone?" I ask to kill time.

"Nothing" he deadpans.

"What do you mean nothing, we left in the morning ..... that was six hours ago"

"I just, I don't know"

"Talk to me" I say gently, in all this time I never really got to work out Max, maybe it's because I know already know what his deal is.

"My life has already been set, this is my life all of it, this is it"

"This is not a life Max, this is a job"

He chuckles like I said something funny looking up at me through his eyelashes "Mia this is the life, there is nothing beyond this, maybe for Bane sure there's a chance but for us.....for me this is it"

"Did Nicholas say you can't have a life?" I'm sacred he'll say yes, please don't say yes.

"No, there's no rules on who you can date just that if they find out and you're not serious with them.. they can't exactly keep living" his head tilts down in shame almost.

I hesitate for my next question "Have you ever had to kill someone for it?"

"Yes" he answers bluntly and without any emotion, it's cold and yet filled with sorrow all wrapped into one "I'm not proud of it Mia, I never will be and there's no excuse for it, not that I'm looking for one"

"I get it Max" we both sit in silence as he thinks about what he'd just said, a life like this isn't a life at all but then again what the fuck is life in general. If someone answered it for me I would honestly be amazed because it truly makes no sense.

"It's fucking freezing"

"Yeah no shit" he laughs and just like that we're back to normal as we laugh at me shaking at the wind, he to shivers from only having a shirt on.

"Ready to go in yet?"

"Max" I sigh not wanting to get into an argument.

"Okay fine, I'll go get us some drinks at least, okay?" pushing himself of where he just sat he picks up his gun walking to the door.

"Hot chocolate" I yell as he nears the door and the wind seems to have picked up a notch.

"You got it"

This isn't the fucking wind-

"MAX GET DOWN" I scream running towards him as a helicopter comes into view in front of us but it all happens so fast I barely have time to process what to do.

Max freezes looking straight at it as it aims for us, the rocket launches loudly before hitting just a floor below, it does enough to collapse Max's whole side. I sprint right for him as the floor gives in under him, he slides across to the death drop before him but I jump for his arm catching it just as his body drops of the ledge. I strain my muscles, holding us both up by the metal railing, everything falls past us nearly knocking my grip off.

"Hold on Max" he looks up at me fixing his grip onto my hand tighter as I try to figure out how to get out of this and then I spot it, a window right below us "Max I'm going to swing you into that window, ready?"

"Wait what about you?"

"Trust me, I'll be fine" I pull hard and swing his body in the air, eventually his weight helps in making the swing more effective.

"3" l count breathing in.

"2" l hold it swinging him away from the window.

"1" I let my breath go along with him as I watch his body drop straight inside. Relief washes over me straight away as he stand rushing to window for me.

"Mia drop I'll catch you" he stretches his arms out hanging out the window.

"No I'll meet you downstairs go!" I pull myself up with ease and walk over to where I dropped my guns, my left thigh burns completely from skidding across the concrete but that right there is the least of my worries.

The fucker in the helicopter on the other hand is my first.
