"Two aren't so bad"

"You say that now but when we open those doors and sixty guys fully loaded are standing there then what?" I whisper over to Max as we lay low behind some littered blocks of cement. It looks like they're renovating and for good reason too, I mean this place looks likes it could crumble with one shove.

"I'll take these two" he says disappearing from my side and I take my attention back at the two armed men keeping watch by the door. Max pops up behind one, slicing through his throat with such speed I get kinda jealous, the next one is harsher, he shoves the knife below the other guys chin making it a much slower death. When it's done I walk over glancing down at their bodies.

"Smooth" I tell him opening the doors carefully.

"Thanks" he almost smiles, glancing across his work once more.

When I open them it's simply pitch black, nothing inside at all, but then the emergency lights flash on giving us a dim blue light to work with.

"Could be worse" he whispers moving deeper inside the building with me at the front. A basement door catches my attention from how little it's peeked open so that's exactly the direction I pull us in. I push it open pointing my gun straight into its long staircase down but not a person in sight.

I take the first step waiting for a loud creek to echo through but the stairs stay strong "someone is down here" I whisper to him without looking away.

"Right behind you" he says comforting the chills that seem to be crawling down my spine.

Our guns click as we head down slowly getting closer and closer to the bottom and when we do my gun shoots straight up followed by Max.

Dad and Belle are in the middle surrounded by glass and yet they haven't spun around to see us, even as we circle around in front of them they're peacefully minding their own business.

Belle lays still in her hospital bed surrounded by equipment, her head is wrapped in bandages and her face.... her face is laced with stitches. She has bruises covering her neck all to the top of her head, good.

My dad sits in a chair staring at her but her focus is drawn to the floor.

"They can't see us" Max says putting his gun down.

"I think it's blacked out" i whisper, watching them this close feels like doing something morally wrong. My skin crawls at how close I am, even if there's glass dividing us.

"What-" he hessites "What do you wanna do?"

"Are you with me?" I ask swallowing down the tears.

"You know I am"

I walk closer to the glass box and the double doors slide open. Dad immediately shoots up looking at who entered and clearly he didnt like what he's seen as his face looses any pigment it ever had.

I point my gun at him "sit" he sits straight away looking pissed as ever. Belle has this disgusted look going for her "why the long face sis?" I ask pissing her off just like I hoped it would.

Shaking my head to Max he doesn't need to be told twice as he takes over for me pointing his gun at dad whilst I move for Belle.

"Mia leave her alone" he angrily yells making me stop in my tracks.

"You still protect her?"

"Of course I'll protect her, she's my daughter, my baby" he says as if it was obvious.

"I was never really the complaining type but I have to ask" pull it together Mia "what am I to you?"

"A monster" without hesitation, without a single ounce of hesitation he simply says it like that's all I ever was to him his entire life. Max looks at me slightly with sadness in his eyes.
