As the helicopter makes its way back around, I throw myself behind a piece of concrete that has completely shot up from the ground.
"Mia we know you're there, we have a message for you"
Of course this has to do with Rayan, carefully I steal a glance at the helicopter but that does no good as he begins drowning me with bullets. I push myself further into the stone as it begins to cut shorter and shorter, every second seems to cost miles of cover, I shut my eyes in hopes it clears some of the debris but the pieces just dig so much harsher. My lungs burn with every breath, like dried cement was just poured right down my throat, I'm suffocating.
Focus!
I need to focus, just as I slow my breathing I begin to remember what I saw with that little glance I got. There was just one, one man, no Rayan so where is he and where the fuck is Nicholas!
"Rayan sends his regards" he croaks into the speaker.
There's no way in fucking hell I'm dying at the hands of this motherfucker.
"Yeah well send it right fucking back" I say through my teeth raising my own guns before blowing out a long steady breath.
I get up fast, aiming for his smiling face, I lace him completely with bullets walking closer and closer towards the edge. The guy doesn't have time to react as he tries to move out of the way away instead he begins pressing every button under the sun.
Just as the rocket hits the floor below me, bullet is already deeply lodged in the centre of his head. The helicopter begins swaying in every direction, alarms from within blaring warning calls to the dead man with no control.
The ground beneath me gives in completely and soon the feeling of falling plunges deep into my stomach, the fact that I'm being thrown against things is actually lessening the weight of the fall and it's for that reason alone that I land without too many problems. I get up brushing the rubble off my face as it grinds into every inch of me, my eyes glance up and I have to double take completely, the view in front of me looks like a scene from a movie, the whole hotel is ripped apart.. entirely in half.
"Jesus" I breath out, there's so much going through my head right that I don't know what to listen to first but what I know for sure is I need to figure out if Max is safe. I jump down fast rushing to the back of the place, except there isn't much of a back left.
"Mia oh my god" he rushes over throwing his arms over my shoulders crushing me in suprise, I eventually hug him back.
"I'm glad you're okay" I mumble against his chest, he pulls back staring deeply into me.
"You're bleeding"
"Tell me something new" we smile at each other but it's the thinnest one we both can muster up at the moment, still it's enough for now.
"Max" I look at him and he seems to be catching on what I need to go do.
"No, absolutely not"
"Max I need to, look around you, this-this is all he does I don't wanna keep living like this, this isn't a life, it's pure survival"
"We're supposed to do it together, you, me and Bane, so no, forgot about it"
"I've done way harder things than go after a man child with tantrum issues" just the thought of him fuels me with the same type of energy like at the ball.
"Bane would kill me, he'd probably kill you too"
"Look around, he's not here but we are" I basically laugh as I look around for myself "I love him I do but this isn't his fight, it never was, it was always mine so I'll end it just the same"
"But you could die" he says quietly sending goosebumps across my skin.
"Believe it or not it wouldn't be my first time"
"Then I'm coming with and you'll have to shoot me if you want otherwise because I'm not leaving you Mia, I won't"
"This isn't some mission where there will be back up around the corner Max, this is 'we go in expecting to not walk out' kinda thing"
He looks down at the floor thinking to himself for a brief moment before looking back to me "it's not like I've got something waiting for me, I have no one Mia, no one" adjusting his gun higher to his body he walk closer to me "you're the only family I have, so I'm going"
Family?
"Max-" I don't really know the hell to say, there's also no time. Knowing Rayan he'll want to move locations as soon as possible so as much as I hate the idea of letting Max come with, I have no choice "okay, but if shit starts getting messy you leave, deal?"
"Deal" he nods firmly.
"We're going to go on foot, they'll definitely be excepting us to be in a car so that's a definite no, how's your stamina"
"Needs work but I'll be good"
"I hope it's good enough to run for 40 minutes straight" I smile making my way towards the highways, I hear rubble falling behind as he catches up.
"And by the way" we stand shoulder to shoulder "We're getting you a life when I kill the man child"
And here we are sprinting through the streets of Paris, a girl covered in dust and blood strapped with guns and knives. A boy covered in the same carrying a riffle at his side sprinting just behind.
Cars come to screeching's stops as we run across the busy roads not caring who's in our way, people rip apart letting us through as we pass by the Eifel tower heading south for the piece of shit that seems to be unable to wait another day to die.
