Classes without Aiyden certainly weren't the same, and even though Ms. Tremblay tried her best, it just wasn't it. Apart from the fact that I loved the man, Aiyden always managed to hold everyone's attention. Even when talking about the most boring of subjects.
This lecture, however, I was more interested in the peeling cover of my textbooks. I didn't mean to look bored, especially since she was just trying her best, but I couldn't help it.
Felicity looked to be near falling asleep next to me, and I shoved my elbow into her side to wake her up.
"What?" she groaned, scowling at me before she shifted in her seat.
"Don't be rude," I whispered, nudging my head in the direction of our new professor.
Felicity sighed and sunk further into her seat, focusingfocussing her attention on the board for a split second before looking around the room. I tried to ignore her, my fingers playing with the cover of my book. It would've probably been better if I stopped before I made it worse, but that was going to be hard.
"Psst." Felicity slapped her hand over mine to stop me from moving, and I shot an apologetic look to Ms. Tremblay when she looked up.
"What?"
"Where's Dylan?"
I frowned at her, my eyes trailing over the students in the auditorium. I saw Derek almost immediately, sitting back with his phone in his hands, but the seat next to him was empty.
I just shrugged. "Fuck if I know."
But though I really wanted to pretend that I didn't care, my mind immediately wandered to a very dark place. With everything going on, missing class could mean everything. And as much as I tried to stay positive, an intense feeling of dread came over me.
Felicity hummed but didn't press the subject.
I focused back on Ms. Tremblay, but I couldn't help but wonder where Dylan was and if he was okay. It wasn't like we were friends, but I still wanted him to be safe.
About an hour later, we were finally done with this lecture, and Felicity and I met up with Penny at the coffee shop on campus. We never really went there, even though I really thought I would at the start of the year, but the weather was nice and I guess we all needed to get out of the dorms for a while.
"Hey," Penny greeted us with a small smile, her bag overflowing with books and hanging onto her shoulder for dear life. She seemed to be doing a lot better since she came from the hospital, and it was good to see her like this again.
"I'll get us some drinks, you guys pick out a place to sit," Felicity said before she handed over her bag and disappeared inside the shop.
We selected a table and Penny took a seat with her back against the glass, seeming a little nervous as she looked around.
"Are you okay?" I questioned, sitting down next to her.
She cleared her throat and looked up. "Yeah, I'm fine. How are you? How are things with...you know." She wiggled her brows and I decided to go with the change in subject. It was obvious she didn't want to talk about what was really going on with her, so I didn't push.
I felt my cheeks heat up as I thought about Aiyden, my chest filling up with butterflies. Before I could reply, Felicity returned with three iced coffees, placing them on the table before she sunk into a chair.
"My mind is fried." She sighed, oblivious to the fact that she just interrupted a conversation. But I didn't mind.
Maybe I wanted to keep most of my and Aiyden's relationship to myself anyway. It was something that solemnly belonged to us and I wanted to keep it that way a little longer.
