—∗✩) ☘︎ (✩∗—With the first blizzard of the year behind them and the snow trapping them inside having been hauled away, campus life was finally returning back to normal. Dahlia had already bundled up and headed to her classes, leaving Bun in the dorm alone.
Their temporary friendship should technically be over. It was his original plan to go right back to saying little more than hello and goodbye but as soon as he staggered out of his bedroom, saw that pretty smile and heard her say 'hey, Bunny,' that shit went right out of the window.
Fuck it. They were friends now. He already told her to call him by his nickname anyway. It would be fucked up to take it back.
During their isolation, she helped him just as much as he helped her. She even listened to some of his messed up childhood and didn't pity him. Not giving her that title would be assholish even for him. Although their original intentions for doing so were shady, Pup and Kit had already recognized how good a friend she was. He should have listened to them sooner but better late than never, he guessed.
Speaking of Pup's punk ass, he'd better start heading over to the radio station before he was late.
After zipping up his flight jacket and throwing the fur-lined hood over his head, he began the walk to the Myers building. It was close to noon on a Thursday, meaning Pup would be on the radio for his lunchtime talk show and Bun was his guest for the day.
His tan boots crunched against the salt on the ground as he walked through the channels carved out by the snow blowers. Around him, the untouched snow that covered the grass sparkled like glitter in the sunlight. It was pretty. That along with the icicles hanging from the trees, the smell of roasted chestnuts that always floated through Times Square, and the ice skating rink due to open soon all reminded him why this was his favorite time of year.
As if he had a sixth sense, his downcast gaze lifted and locked onto a familiar figure walking across the quad in his direction, making him unconsciously tuck his lower lip into his mouth, slide his hands into his coat pockets and walk just a little bit taller.
The strap of her satchel crossed her body and the large pouch holding her books subtly bounced against her hip as she walked. She wore a simple pair of jeans, tan construction boots, and the knowledge that one of the shirts keeping her warm under her light grey puffer coat belonged to him gave him a sense of satisfaction he tried to ignore.
Long, wavy hair peeked from under her hood, framing her oval face. She was in her own world, taking in their scenic surroundings just like he was until he was suddenly the center of her focus. Her dark, almond shaped eyes landed on him and her full lips began to curl into a smile.
*Thump*
It was too late to look away and pretend he didn't see her so he played it cool, openly staring back but saying nothing as they approached each other. She waved a mitten covered hand at him and he gave her a single upward nod of his head, saying hello as if they hadn't seen each other a couple of hours ago. Wordlessly, they held each other's gaze as they walked but just before she passed him, he leaned over and nudged her with his arm, making her stumble.
He heard rather than saw her run into the wall of hardened snow lining the walkway, and his shoulders shook as he silently snickered at her frustration. It grew into a chuckle when she turned and followed him until she planted her hands on the center of his back and pushed hard, making him laugh out loud.
Flailing his arms, he stumbled dramatically before turning around and giving her a playful death glare.
"Your big head ass strong as shit," he mumbled.
