- a few hours later, back to Y/N's Perspective-

"Come on, pick up, pick up, pick up." You whisper frantically to yourself as you sit on the window ledge of the prison's communal room.

"Hello?" The soft spoken voice spoke on the other end. It felt so good to her a familiar voice that you actually wanted to speak to.

Your eyes instantly well up as you croak down the phone "Hey there."

"Y/N? Are you okay?" The panic in Sarah's voice made your heart swell.

You chuckle, as you grin to yourself "Oh you know me, just making myself Captain America's scapegoat and new number one enemy." You shake your head.

Sarah sighs down the phone, you can literally hear her annoyance and worry simultaneously fighting to win her emotional capacity.

"You should have let me help you when everyone was blipped. I could have helped you Y/N." She says, completely defeated.

"Sarah, stop. You had Aj and Cass to take care of. I'm okay, but listen. I'm calling for you to pass a message onto your brother." You focus the conversation back.

You had spent so long ensuring Sarah felt no guilt that you were on your own, that you were having to take desperate measures to survive. You weren't allowing her to start that now.

"Sam's involved? Wait, he knows that you're here." She sounds a little too excited for your liking.

"Sarah, sweetie. Focus." You begin quite stern, only way to stop her train of thought. "Tell him I said to stay away. Keep out of it and whatever he's mixed up in with the flagsmashers to just leave it alone." Your voice staying stern but soft, making sure she knew you meant business.

You hear her sniffle down the phone, which breaks your heart. You softly bang the back of your head against the wall behind you, closing your eyes to hold back your own tears.

"Still keeping that promise to Riley I see." She says through a slight chuckle, followed by a sniffle again.

You scoff "if your dufus brother listens." You hang your head and laugh, the memories flooding your head, the pain, the laughs, the tears, the trauma "God I sound like..." Your voice breaks.

"Riley." She says so softly you almost don't hear it. There's a silence for a beat before she clears her throat "but Y/N, you know he won't back off if he thinks you're in danger." Sarah's tone sounds remotely like a warning.

It catches you slightly off guard, but you understood it. It was a big ask, but it was something you needed to do, Riley's words forever ringing in your ear.

"Then you'll have to convince him Sarah."

Then you hear the clunking and clattering of gates being opened, the rattle of keys and key chains against the gated doors. Quickly followed by the thudding of heavy boots of the officers coming to get you.

As you look at the door way, a young girl stood. Average height for a girl, on the slightly larger side, not fat fat, but you could tell by her protruding belly that she was impartial to the sweet treats and greasy delights America had to offer. But she was sweet. She smiled at you and leant against the door frame.

Mouthing "take your time." To you as you were about to finish up your call. The officer then retreats out of sight, her long brown hair flicking over her shoulder as she turns on her heel out of the door to give you your privacy.

"Look I've got to go. But Sarah, please talk to him. I can't lose him too... not again." Your voice trailing off as a tear cascades down your cheek. You lost him in the blip, that was bad enough, you couldn't bare a more permanent alternative.

"Ill do what I can." Sarah states back, her tone was determined which made the pressure lift off your chest. As you breathe a slight sigh of relief.

"Thanks Sarah. Take care of all of you." You think for a second, before gulping "I miss you." You whisper. You weren't an idiot, you were still in prison and no one could ever know you had any kind of weakness that they could exploit. Especially not with Karli around to do whatever she could to keep you under her control.

"Stay alive. We miss you." Sarah states quickly, she understood the risks it took.

Sending a warning to Sam was one thing. But to be openly vulnerable with an officer in ear shot was another.

You put the phone down and slide off the window ledge before heading to the door. As you stepped out of the frame, you were shocked to find the officer was stood right up against the gate.

"All set?" She asked genuinely.

"All set." You replied, slightly sheepish.

As she opened the gate ready to escort you back to your cell, you looked back at her with furrowed brows.

"Something wrong?"

"You're being overly nice. Are you giving g a flash sense of security so the beating I'm about to get will be that bit more of a shock."

She laughs, wholeheartedly. "I don't know what you've been through, but given your connections I understand the scepticism. No false sense of security, just makes everyone's day easier to be nice. Besides, you've not done anything wrong. But let's keep that between us?"

"What's your name?"

"Now if I told you that, then you would need that beating. Come on, let's get you back. We'll get you out of here in no time."

You smile as she unlocks your cell door guiding you gently into it, before locking it again.

"Officer Hugh." She spoke softly as she slid away before you had chance to reply. It made you smile that not everyone had become corrupted under the new circumstances. It was a rarity these days, and to find it in a prison, was humbling.
