-Sam's Perspective-
Being home has definitely helped me with processing that's happened over the last year or so. It's a distraction, a welcome distraction but still a distraction.
As I'm helping two of my pops' old friends empty out their truck with supplies to help me do up pops and ma's old boat, the only thing left to take off is the new engine.
But it's huge and weighs more than a few tons.
"Size of that thing. How we getting that off there?" you ask perplexed.
You start chuckling alongside the old family friends "Ah what am I thinking? Two strong getns right here. You got this right fellas?" you all erupt into belly laughter as you look at the size of it, wondering how on earth you were getting it off there.
Next thing you know there's a creak, the truck lifts up slightly and the engine is being lifted into the air... with ease.
Surely not.
Of course it was.
James Buchanan Barnes.
Lifting it over his head light it was nothing. Like it weighed no more than a damn feather. Whilst it was useful and helpful, it just reminded you how much of a pain in the ass he was.
You go over to thank him for his help and he immediately faces you, stern and stoic as always, as he lifts a silver case in his hands. "I've got something for you."
You were curious. As he lifted the case onto the back of the truck, it was big, chunky, had a passcode to get into it. This was serious. You knew straight away.
"It's her, isn't it?" you ask, scared for the answer.
Slightly out of breathe "Ye-yeah." Bucky immediately confirms.
This raises one question and the only question you cared about "You've seen her?" you ask confrontational.
Before he can answer, a pipe tighten comes lose letting all kinds out on the boat, sending a high screech around the dock. "Dammit!!" You rush over with a wrench to tighten it back up.
But you immediately struggle.
"Move, move. I got it. I got it." Bucky insists, taking over the wrench and makes light and easy work of tightening it right back up. Again reminding you he was a pain in your ass, but then you realise he used his normal hand.
"Surely would have been easier to use the metal arm." You ask, genuine question but did have a slight hint of sarcasm in there.
Bucky takes a breath and looks at his metal arm "I don't always remember it. I'm-er-right handed." he lifts his right hand then looks at you "Oh and yes, I've seen her."
