So Close

"So what now Y/N? You going to kill me?" Karli asks, the hunt of sarcasm trying to hide the evident fear.

You scoff, shaking your head as you placed your hands on your hips "you really haven't been paying attention have you?" You look at her.

She laughs. Heartedly. Now she was shaking her head back at you "of course. Of course you're not. You're too soft to kill me."

This rattles you, your nostrils flare, your fists clench, your stomach twists, your blood boils and your mouth dries.

Every instinct in you was fighting to keep your hand reaching for your gun and pulling that trigger right then and there.

-meanwhile-

John was still nervously pacing, breathing heavy. "She's taking too long." He grits.

-back to Y/N & Karli-

"No. Because killing you makes me no better than you. I helped you do too much. I need to stop you before you reach the point of no return Karli." You explain.

Once again her reaction throws you off. "What?!" She questions. "After everything you've been through, I thought you'd get it." Her confusion was absolute. She didn't understand why you would want to stop her.

"Get what? The pointless murders. The sacrifices of your own men/women/children. Super soldier serum deployment." You counter.

"The serum was to even out the playing field Y/N." Karli tries to defend herself and explain away her actions, sounding as compelling as she did the first day you met her.

"They've got Bucky Barnes chasing up. John Walker albeit without the serum, but he's still a soldier." She continues "do you really think we would have stood a chance without the edge?" She questions, defeated and desperate.

You sigh "sometimes Karli, you really show your youth and lack of understanding at how this all works." You hang your head, feeling just as defeated.

She gives you a confused look, scoffing at your comment.

"Your use of the serum is why they reacted the way they did." You try to explain, she once again tuts as she turns away, you stand in front of her to get her to look you in the eye, giving a sympathetic look "you waged a war, you weren't ready to fight Karli."

You could see it slowly sinking it. The worry resurfacing, the panic and fight slowly fading.

"You have to stop this now. Give me the rest of the serum and go into the hiding. This is your best option." You plead.

It's like you can see the wall barricading her back off to the world as she recoils from you with a matching look of disgust on her face.

"And stop when we're so close? Have you lost your mind?"

"Close to what Morgenthau? You've lost. Just give it up. Don't make this harder than it needs to be." You lose your patience. Getting angry with her.

You watch as she contemplates it, hovering her hand over the pouch around her waist, it clatters with the familiar sound of glass. It was the viles. She had the serum.

And in typical untimely, bossy fashion.

Walker.

"You're done Y/N. I knew not to trust you." He barks as his men grip hold of you.

You fight against them "goddamn it Walker. What the hell is your problem?!" You roar at him, desperate.
