Ember's POV:
I can't believe that we're actually lost! How will I see Everett again? What am I going to do?
"Uh... Em?" Zander said snapping me back to reality.
"What?" I snapped angrily.
"Woah, calm down." Zander said.
"Calm down? You're asking me to 'calm down'?" I yelled.
"Yeah. I am. If you keep freaking out then we'll never get out of here." Zander said calmly.
"Fine. What were you going to say?" I asked as calm as I could.
"Promise you won't get mad?" He asked.
"Promise." I said unsure of what he was going to say.
"Pinky promise." He said as he looped his pinky into mine.
"Ok. Pinky promise." I said smiling at him.
"Wait. Let's say that promise to each other that we made when we were little first. Just in case." He said pleadingly.
"What promise..." I asked very confused. Maybe this is what I forgot! If it was a promise I made when I was little, then why can't I remember it. My brain is so weird!
"The promise that we made when we were- OH MY GOSH!!!! That's probably what you forgot!!" He yelled.
"Oww. I think you broke my eardrum." I said as I rubbed my ear.
"Sorry, but I think that you forgot our promise." He said happily.
"Then please. Enlighten me." I said in my best teacher voice.
"Ok then. It all started when we first moved in. I was a weird awkward kid so I didn't have any friends. One day, my mom told me to go over to our neighbors house. She never said that it was a girl, so I went over and knocked on the door. I waited there for a second, and then finally someone opened the door. I looked up to see you. Well, when we were little, you were... uh... taller than me. Don't laugh. So anyway, I asked you if you had a little brother, and you said no, so I asked you how old you were, and we were the same age, so I felt embarrassed and started to walk away." Zander said as he started blushing.
"Ok? Then what?" I asked wanting him to finish his story.
"Where was I? Oh right, so I started to walk away, but you stopped me and said that you wanted to play because no one else was home, so I agreed. I had to ask you several times if you were a girly-girl and wanted to play barbie's and do makeover, but you told me several times that you liked dancing and playing soccer. At first I didn't believe you, so I challenged you to a soccer game." He said.
"Who won?" I asked anxiously.
"Well..." He started to say.
"I won right?" I said lazily.
"Uh..." He stuttered.
"Just suck it up dude. That was a super long time ago." I said as I punched him in the arm.
"Ow. Would you let me finish my story?" Zander said very embarrassed.
"Okay!" I said happily.
"So... you uh... won, then we started hanging out and stuff." He said.
"So what was the promise?" I asked.
"Well, one day we decided to go for a walk, and we went through a forest around here, and found a lake. The sun was setting so it looked so amazing. We sat down and started talking about what would happen when we were older. Then your facial expression changed. You had a serious face on and you said to me that no matter what happened, we would be best friends forever. We had a secret handshake that we made up together and from that moment on, we've been best friends until.... Middle school." Zander said sadly as he finished the story.
