Zander’s POV:

“What the heck Zander!” Ember yelled.

“What do you mean?” I asked innocently.

“You know what I mean.” She said angrily.

“No, I don’t. You’re so confusing.” I said cockliy.

“Fine. If you don’t tell me, then i’m going to jump out of your car right now.” She said.

“Ya right. You would never do that.” I said. Ember would not be stupid enough to actually jump out of the car.

“Oh yeah? Try me.” Ember said as she started to unlock the car door.

“So what? You’re just unlocking the door. You’re obviously smart enough to know that if you jump out of the car you could die.” I said laughing as I pushed the lock button in the car.

“I guess you thought wrong.” Ember said smiling as she opened the door and started to scoot over by sticking her foot out the door.

"Em. Put your foot back in the car. Now." I said as calmly as I could.

"Don't worry daddy, I'm smart enough to not jump out of the car.” She mocked.

“See, I knew you would come to your senses. Now put your foot back in the car and close the door.” I said laughing.

“Fine. But only because I still want to play soccer and dance.” She said happily.

After about 10 minutes of silence, I finally spoke breaking the awkwardness. “So what’s up with you and Everett?” I said trying to keep my voice calm.

“What do you mean?” she asked obliviously.

“You guys kissed.” I said quietly.

“Oh ya, that.” Ember said like it was no big deal.

“Yup, so are you guys a, thing?” I asked hoping to not sound too desperate.

“What? That’s a good question. I’ll call Ev.” Ember said as she started to pull out her phone.

“No! I mean, you can call him later.” I said trying to sound casual.

“It’s okay. I’ll just call him now.” Said Ember as she dialed his number.

“Why are you calling him now? You could call him later. Plus, I wanted to talk to you. Just like the old days. Remember?” I said just I realized what I had said. Bad choice of words. I looked over at Em to see if she looked sad or angry, but the only look on her face was happiness. “Sorry. Bad choice of words.” I mumbled.

“It’s ok Zander. I wanted to tell you something anyway.” She said still smiling at her phone.

“Why do you look so happy?” I asked hoping her and Everett had not become an “item.”

“Well, two things. Thing number one, Everett didn’t answer, so you wouldn’t have to hear our conversation, and second, wait for it. I GOT MOST OF MY MEMORY BACK!” She yelled.

What when did this happen? So she remembers all of our fun times together? This is awesome. Wait, rewind. She didn’t want me to hear her conversation with Everett? Who cares!! She remembers me! “That’s awesome! So you remember everything we did together!” I exclaimed.

“Did you even listen Zander? I said MOST of my memory. There’s still something that I can’t remember, and I feel like it’s really important.” Ember said.

“Well what can’t you remember?” Zander asked suspiciously.

“You’re so stupid. Did you even hear what you just said?” Em asked as she hit the side of my head playfully.

“What? Oh... now I feel stupid.” Zander muttered.

“I heard that, and yes you are.” Ember said trying to hold in her laugh.

“Hey! Rude!” I yelled as I burst out laughing.

“Sorry.” Ember said as she laughed with me. “Sander, where are we going? This isn’t the way home.”

“Yup! We’re going somewhere special!” I said happily.

“Ugh! Fine. I want too be home by 8 then.” Ember said angrily.

“Okay! We’re almost there!” I yelled excitedly.

When Em said that there was something she didn’t remember, I knew I had too take her somewhere special to help her remember. Most people never actually knew that I had a soft spot. Most of my friends just thought I was some cocky, good-looking, sport playing dude. It’s not that I wasn’t or anything, I mean seriously. Just look at me. What could resist THIS face? Apparently Em. That’s why she... is my soft spot.

“How much longer?!” Ember groaned.

“10 more minutes.” I said quickly.

“You said that 10 minutes ago!” She said angrily. “Are we lost?” She said as her expression quickly changed from anger to fear.

“How’d you find out?” I said playing along.

“Oh no. We’re going to die.!” She yelled.

This was going to be fun. I get to torture Em for about 15 more minutes! “I don’t know where we’re going! I tried to stay calm for as long as I could, but then you figured out that we were lost...” I said impressed with my own acting skills.

“Why didn’t you just tell me?” Ember asked as she touched my hand.

I should fake being sad more often. Special treatment from a girl. Oh yeah! “I didn’t want you to be worried.” I said as I pulled over to the side of the road.

“We could’ve found a way out of here together.” She said thoughtfully.

“Let’s try too drive back to where we came from.” I said calmly.

“Okay. Let’s go. If anything else goes wrong, you can let me know.” She said.

After a while, I realized that we were actually lost..... We needed to get out of here.
