It was morning. The bell was very loud and discomforting, I jumped down to get ready for school, my apartment mates equally got ready.

The matron came in after we had had our bath and assigned us work to do.

I made and straightened the beds and began to dress up for school.

Deze was mopping, Kosi was sweeping and supervising, Asah was taking buckets out to the tap to get them fetched in the afternoon and Flourish took out towels so I, Asah and Flourish left together to the dinning hall where we were served bread and tepid tea.

I bit into the bread and left the dinning afterwards.

The boys had begun to come to school and girls went wiggly over their boyfriends.

I sighed, disgusted at such uninterrupted display of unsupported relationship. Asah took me to the class and we sat down and got ready for lessons.

Very soon the class was filled up and the bell for first period went off but I was yet to see my so called seatmate.

The first teacher, an English teacher entered. "You are all welcome back after the holidays looking fresh and fat"

"Thank you ma" we replied.

"I heard there's a new student in this class, now who is that?"

I hesitated then raised my hand.

"Good, now tell us your name, age, your former school and reasons for leaving"

I sighed. Not again. "I'm Ryla. Call me Ryl, I'm fourteen years old, I'm coming from Leone High school and I came out because the fees got so high and I couldn't afford it so my dad decided that I should leave"

"Okay, we are glad to have you here and we implore you to be of good conduct.  Welcome Ryla"

"It's actually Ryl" I said softly.

"Now, let's get to work..... Write an essay on your last holiday"

Some people groaned. A boy stood by the door, a frightful look on his face.

"Anderson! Late again"

"I'm so sorry ma, the car broke down this morning so I had to look for a cab". He explained remorsefully.

His accent was cool, like the English felt interesting from his own mouth.

Finally, the teacher allowed him to enter and he sat beside me, he smelt of sweat and water melon. I held my breath for a second then breathed out.

"Hello, I'm Ryl"

"I know" he said bluntly.

That was a bit harsh. I swallowed and said nothing.

Later, I got to know that Kosi was the class monitor and Anderson was her assistant.

It was after English period and no teacher had entered the class. Kosi stood up.

"Anderson, go and inform Mrs. Nwaru that we have not seen our teachers"

"Ah, Kosi , the term just began, you don't expect teachers to start coming immediately" a boy from the back complained.

Kosi eyed him. "We have tests on Thursday and Friday but none of you wants to learn, you just want to drop your lazy asses on your freaking seats"

"Kosi, mind your words, you are not the only one in this class" Anderson warned.

Kosi scoffed."I'm the only intelligent person who thinks ahead of all my peers"

The class roared.

"What!" She shouted. "Am I lying? I take first in both test and exams and I haven't even seen a competitor yet"

"That's so cool" Anderson said sarcastically.

"Is that so?" Asah hissed. "You are forgetting that we have a newcomer who nobody knows her abilities yet"
She was referring to me.

Kosi burst into laughter.

"Can you keep quiet? You are making noise in this class!!!" a girl screamed and everybody stared at her. She was huge almost taller than everyone else.

I stared at her.

"Kosi.. keep your achievements to your self" she hissed.

Kosi hissed back but said nothing, she simply sat down and murmured incoherently.

Anderson turned to me. "You must be wondering who she is" he said.

I nodded. "Yes, who is she?"

"She's the class bully... And by the way, I'm sorry I was rude earlier... My name is Anderson, Iwu"

I chuckled at his surname.

"It's nice to meet you, Anderson"

He smiled at me and I smiled back.

We finally meet Anderson. He isn't so handsome and popular afterall.

Well, I think the relationship between Ryl and Anderson would be great.
