I dropped the hoe and groaned, we were outside weeding with Anderson on the second day of his punishment after Civic exams.

Asah dropped her hoe too clutching her head.
"I think I'm developing a headache" she squatted.

Anderson sighed. "This people are wicked o, work for one person, three people cannot even finish it"

Asah waved her hands. "What are we having tomorrow?"

"Mathematics, are you prepared?" I asked them.

Asah shrugged. "Maths is not my kind of subject.... You kwanu?"

"I don't know... " I sighed. "I didn't read much"

"The two of you should go and read, the job is almost done" Anderson said with guilt all over his face.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Yes" he shrugged. "I'm prepared for mathematics, I'll see you people tomorrow"

"Okay, take care" I dusted my hands and picked my bag gently and Asah did the same and we left.

"Good Samaritan, how was the punishment?" A voice said as we entered.

Asah turned to see who it was.

"Come on, let's just ignore them" I told her.
"No see" Asah pointed and I turned.

A group of girls, Mercy and Glory, the twins from Pink house, Deze, Flourish and Kosi were making jest of us as we walked past.

"All of you dey craze!" Asah shouted angrily.

"Incase, you don't know.... The both of you were absent when they chose the girls for the upcoming beauty pageant and unfortunately, your bestie, Ryla is not among" Kosi said with a chuckle.

Asah smiled mockingly. "Do you know why you are happy, because you know she's finer than you by all standards"

"Abeg, is it with her short hair or flat bum...."

"Kosi, stop!" I screamed.

The girls giggled holding their stomachs.

"Asah, let's get out of here" I grabbed Asah's hand and walked into the apartment.

Tears sipped to my eyes but I promised not to cry.

I pulled off my clothes and joined Asah to wash in her space.

Later, we were all reading and Deze was in Kosi's corner and Asah came to mine.

As we read together, Deze came to me showing me a question.

"What?" I snapped angrily.

"Abeg, don't be angry na, do you understand this thing?" She asked with a pitiable look on her face.

As I made to collect the book and look at the question, Asah held my hand.

"Wait, I thought you were among those who were laughing at her and besides, you were reading with the most intelligent in our class so why can't you ask her?"

"Asah, you know how Kosi is na? She will ask me to pay"

"You should have thought of that when you were laughing at Ryl" Asah sneered.

"All of you just like feeling as if you are too charming to refuse" I said annoyed.

"If you are not teaching me, you tell me" Deze cut in impatiently.

"Good... she's not teaching you, you may now take your leave" Asah glared at her.

"Asah, chai, I did not call you" Deze hissed.
