Hello there :)
What?
Countryhumans content??
From me?????
You must be kidding :)))Anyways hi, I have come back from the dead, aka hiatus, aka the spirit of countryhumans has left me, to bring you history. We love to see it :D
I present to you today an event, that is a part of the top tier list of confusing European history: the Hundred Years' War
So to start of, in the picture are France and England. France's face is obscured so you can't really see the flag and England has a past flag in this one which combines the English coat of arms with the French royal standard of the time. The flag was used during the war to symbolize the English claim of the French throne.
Unlike usually I will not explain the entire historical event that this piece is based on, simply because it's way too much and I'd get a stroke trying to explain it shortly :)
However there are some things I'd like to mention because they help you to understand the picture better-
So, first of, France won the war. This is why she is "killing" England directly, because let's be honest, that a pretty fatal wound. Not that he'd actually die, but it sets a nice end to the conflict and leaves a mark. However France is very much dying aswell, but due to the arrows it's almost more so like she's slowly bleeding out. This represents a number of things, what I find the most noteworthy is that for the majority of the war (and mind you, the war lasted for 116 years) England was beating the heck out of France. Like seriously, the losses France suffered were immense and their ultimate victory came at a great cost. The fact that France won in the first place is pretty much a miracle considering how badly they were doing, even though France was the clear superior force in this conflict, which therefore also caused their reputation to get damaged quite badly, so overall France was suffering a horribly long death-
The other reason I chose the arrows, are the English long bow archers. They were the one great advantage England had over France and in fact any other country at the time, and they were the reason for the English military success. So it only seems fitting to use arrows in this piece :)
Now, this may all seem well, but I'd like to mention that this conflict is of great importance for both of these country's histories and their relationship. Not only was this war incredibly long, but it also caused massive changes to both countries, most notably England, and if the war would have had a different outcome, one which really was not that unlikely to happen, history would be greatly different. What I'm basically saying is; this is an important thing when learning about these two's history.
And if you happen to be writing something on this platform - like me - which perhaps happens to be a CH story too, with either or both of these countries in it- maybe keep this one in mind :DPlus it helps the historical feel :)
