Shipping in this fandom is weird and often gross, BUT there are some very sweet ships - yet for some reason, despite the existence of countries with generally nice relationships, the fandom just... ignores them?
Or perhaps, they just don't know about it ._.

Well fret not dear reader, for I shall introduce you to the sweetest ship of them all, with actual historical reasoning behind it:

Portugal and England

Portugal and England

THEMMMMM
The wholesomeness is strong with this one :D

For all that are not aware of the relationship between these two, or just in general don't know that much about the history of either of them, this might seem weird, but trust me, there are a bunch of reasons-

I mean they have literally been pining on eachother since 1147, where England helped Portugal in the Siege of Lisbon...

And the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance is not without reason the oldest, still ongoing alliance in the world: it was signed in the Treaty of Windsor on the 9th of May 1386

When Portugal was forced into the Iberian Union, the Portuguese royal family fled to England and asked for help, which they gave by aiding Portugal in the Portuguese Restoration War and England was the first country to officially acknowledge Portugal's independence

Portugal in turn ended up entering the 30' Years War on the protestant side (same as England), just before the English Civil War broke out, to help their ally

The Portuguese were also the ones to introduce tea to English merchants, were as the English supplied the Portuguese with cod, a very popular fish there, that you'll find in many dishes, despite there not being any Portuguese waters were cod can be found, so they have to import everything-

Also the alliance was extended onto the Kingdom of Great Britain after it was formed in 1707 and they continued to keep up the good relations, for example during the Napoleonic Wars and both World Wars

Like, the reason I love this ship so much, is not only because such solely good relations between countries are really rare, but also simply because they are SO GOOD
There was exactly ONE time were they were opposing eachother, but that was resolved really quickly, the alliance wasn't ended or anything like that and that wasn't even technically England, but Britain-
And even then, they never fought eachother not even when Spain and England were at war during the times of the Iberian Union, so Portugal was technically at war with England too- but they never engaged in battle, not once throughout their long history

I'm sorry, I swear I'm done ranting (I'm not, I could go on for hours about these two) and I hope you enjoyed this; seeing shipping art, especially for countryhumans is something you'll rarely see from me, but all ships that I have are legitimately based on history and not just "because I think they look cute together"

I also hope that I could bring to light a bit about their history together, because I feel like barely anyone knows about this, despite the great things it brings with it, so yeah, maybe you learned something from this ^^ :D
