TW: The song is literally 'Pumped Up Kicks' and the title is 9/11, guns, fire, bad pacing and just overall, not the best storyline... You've been warned
It was September 11th 2007, six years after the 9/11 attacks, this time he was at a friend's house, his name was Tucker. There was always something off with him, but York dismissed it, well until he found the basement.
Robert's got a quick hand
He'll look around the room, but won't tell you his planThere was a safe, but it wasn't locked, carefully opened it, what he saw in there terrified him.
He's got a rolled cigarette
Hanging out his mouth, he's a cowboy kid, yeahGuns, that didn't scare him alone, but the bombs that were inside with all of the hijacking gear.
He found a six-shooter gun
In his dad's closet, and with a box of fun things
I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah, he's coming for youThe recipes inside were from September 3rd, 2001. "No..." he muttered, in a fit of rage York grabbed the gun running upstairs.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Outrun my gunThe revolver in his shaking hands, his breath felt heavy as he made sure it was loaded fully, before taking it to Tuckers' head.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Faster than my bulletHe pulled the trigger, and his body clambered to the ground, blood pooling out of his body, York's mind was nothing, like a bullet was through it.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Outrun my gunHe didn't seem to notice he was walking around the street, loaded gun in his hands, not until he shot at someone too close.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Faster than my bulletScreams erupted as the man's body collapsed, chaos ensued, people running everywhere, bullets flying, the body's falling, blood pooling...
Daddy works a long day
He'd be coming home late, yeah, he's coming home late
And he's bringing me a surprise
'Cause dinner's in the kitchen, and it's packed in ice"Please, I have a family," one man cried, another woman crying as her blood ran. Police sirens were on their way, closing in.
I've waited for a long time
Yeah, the sleight of my hand is now a quick pull trigger
I reason with my cigarette
Then say, "your hair's on fire, you must have lost your wits, yeah"A gas leak lay on the road, he shot at it, fire, hot mesmerising fire, his blood ran cold,
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Outrun my gunHe couldn't trust anyone, it was possible to hijack another plane and try to hit the White House or the pentagon and he would never let that happen when he could stop it.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Faster than my bulletThen and only then did reality hit him, so many of these people didn't have anything to do with 9/11 so many of them had families and he killed them.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Outrun my gunThen raising the gun to his temple people tried to get him to put the gun down officers told him to drop the weapon, and he pulled the trigger...
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Faster than my bulletthen he was back, seeing as he couldn't die. But when you die if you take your own life you have to relive the worst thing your state went through, and for New York, that was 9/11.
Run, run, run, run
R-r-r-run, run, run, run
R-r-r-run, run, run, run
R-r-r-run
Run, run
Run, run, runAnd he was back watching the towers fall, collapse but he couldn't move, as the second tower fell, it came back worse than ever.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Outrun my gunHe was ejected from the first building, while it collapsed he was thrown out, it didn't take long before his body was found his body barely showing any signs of life.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Faster than my bullethis brother had found him Massachusetts stayed with him until help arrived, and when it did he still stayed by his side, he swore to never leave when someone was in dire need of help.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Outrun my gunEven when the smoke cloud came round the corner killing dozens Massachusetts stayed by his brothers' side. New Jersey had sent boats to save people trapped on the island, saving half a million people.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Faster than my bulletConnecticut helped put people in buildings to save them from the smoke and ash clouds, Maine, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and even Maryland helped fight fires still blazing in the rubble and around.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Outrun my gunNew Hampshire, Delaware, and surprisingly New Jersey (not only helping with boats) helped get people into ambulances and hospitals. Massachusetts and Delaware took New York to a hospital as well.
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run
Faster than my bulletThat day had been hell but had given New York a reason to keep living and helped bring people together to help each other, though sad how many people had died during such events.
