something is
missing...

"you okay? you've been staring off into the distance for a while now?"

charlie asked you with a chuckle, causing you to flinch slightly at the sudden sound. you looked over at her with wide eyes, before shaking your head and relaxing your face, "oh uh, it's nothing." you said, looking away from the girl next to you.

it was a monday, so it was now officially your second week at your new school and you couldn't help but feel that today was a little off. you had been thinking about it for the whole day, not really being able to put your finger on what exactly made today feel weird to you.

you felt like something was missing, but you've checked over all your belongings for what felt like a million times today and you were absolutely sure you had everything you needed with you, but that feeling never went away.

you sighed before looking back over to charlie with your eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "charlie, do you feel like there's something... off with today?" you asked, eyes beginning to dart across your surroundings slowly.

charlie raised an eyebrow at your question, turning her head to look where you were looking, "no? what do you mean?" she asked, turning to look back at you. "i don't know, it just feels like there's something... missing." you said slowly, turning your attention to charlie.

"missing? did you forget something?" she asked, tilting her head, you shook your head no, "i've checked everything i have with me today and i'm certain i have everything i need, but i still feel like something is missing." you answered, scratching the back of your head in confusion.

charlie just hummed, placing a finger on her chin, "that's weird..." she mumbled, looking down at the ground as she thought of what could possibly have gone missing. "maybe i did forget something... maybe i forgot to do something at home?" you spoke up, charlie nodding in agreement with that.

"well if you've survived this long without it, it's probably not that important." charlie said with a smile in an attempt to reassure you, you just nodded your head and mumbled a response of agreement, before falling silent.

you couldn't help but still ponder over what might actually be missing from your day. it wasn't a particularly uncommon thing for you to be forgetful and leave a few minor things behind, but you had checked over your stuff too many times today to still think you left something behind.

it wasn't until you started recalling all the people you interact with everyday for you to finally figure out what was missing.

michael hadn't annoyed you at all today.

in fact you hadn't even seen a glimpse of him at all. not even passing by in the hallway or even in your shared classes together, which you know he would not miss knowing that you'll be there.

upon finding out that michael was missing from your day, you immediately perked up. finally you'll be left alone and be left in peace, but you also couldn't help but wonder where he was for a moment.

you shook the thoughts out of your head, mentally scolding yourself for thinking about him. he wasn't here to annoy you, so why even bother with him?

instead of spending your time wondering where michael could possibly be, you just continued on with your day like normal. relishing in fact that you get to have a peaceful day.

"what am i going to do?" michael groaned, covering his face with his hands in frustration while laying down on his back in his bed. due to all the conflicting advice he has been getting over the last couple of days, michael decided to stay home from school to think of a way to combat this.

he wanted to follow henry's advice to the fullest, because he knew that would actually work, but he couldn't let his friends see him be all nice and kind out of nowhere, they'll humiliate him even more than they already have.

he let out a long sigh before removing his hands from his face, letting them rest on his abdomen while he stared up at his ceiling. he thought of ways he could combat his friends' bullying, he could either just say fuck it and let them see him be "pathetic" in their words or he could just opt to start talking to you when you guys are alone together, like when he asked if you needed a ride after school on your first day. you two were pretty much completely alone then, aside from a few other students who weren't paying attention, but other than that no one was around to see him be an actual nice person.

he smiled at himself for coming up with that conclusion, thinking he was some sort of genius for it. he sat up and swung his legs over the side of his bed, sitting there for a moment as he thought over the plan. he would have to alter a few things here and there, because realistically there probably won't be very many chances for him to be alone with you, but he'll think about that later.

he let a big goofy grin spread on his face as he stood up, before he walked out of his bedroom to go downstairs to fix himself something to eat for lunch.

he was excited to put this new plan to use.
