I woke up in the middle of the night and decided I needed water and fresh air. I got up and carefully stepped out of the room. Thankfully there was a vending machine in the middle of the hallway with water. I grabbed one and looked for a place to sit. Along the walls were windows that could be opened with a ledge below the windowsill. At the very end of the hallway was a specific ledge in between our side of the building and the boy's side that had the better view. I could see the mountains and out into the open property. I sat there for a while and realized I should have gotten music or something.
"Hey." I heard a voice behind me say before I could turn around and get my headphones. I turned in the other direction of the voice and saw Katsuki leaning at the window.
"Shit you scared me. I was about to get my headphones and when I turned you were right there." I took a breath I didn't realize I was holding.
"Well no need for music you got company." He laughed a bit.
"What are you doing up?" I asked him.
"I could ask you the same thing"
"I asked you first.""I couldn't sleep so I decided to get air. Then I saw you, pretty simple." He sighed, "now you?"
"The same as you," I started, "I got thirsty and needed fresh air so now I'm here."
We sat in silence for a while, just listening to the wind blow through the trees, until he broke it.
"How have you been?" Katsuki asked, still leaning against the windowsill.
"Other than being put through justified torture, not too bad. What about you?"
"Pretty good, I feel like hell though." He looked at his hands referencing the training he has to go through.
"You know this kind of surprises me." I say.
"What surprises you? This??" He raises his eyebrow at me.
"Yeah, this. We're having a normal conversation and watching the leaves." I laughed a bit to myself , finding amusement in our situation.
"What? We've had conversations before?" He shrugs still confused.
"Yeah but this one's more mellow." I try to explain "Like, simpler?"
"Well it's night and everyone's sleeping. If you're expecting me to scream or something I have no reason to." He sarcastically replies. "Plus, what if I just want to talk?"
"Katsuki Bakugou just wanted to talk? Well I'll be damned-"
"Would you quit it?"
"Sorry...what did you want to talk about?"He stopped for a moment, thinking. Like he didn't have an answer because he didn't think he'd make it this far. "I don't know, life?"
"Life?
"Yeah? Look, I don't know how you make conversations happen." He throws his hands up in defeat.
"That's because you can't just make them happen, they have to flow." I get up and off from the windowsill and lean against it next to him. "Like the one we're having now. I'd argue that's flowing pretty naturally." He just huffs in response.
In a weird sense of comfort, a conversation starts. I asked how his mom is and he responded with his usual set of sarcastic remarks. He asked me how my mom is doing and I responded with my usual sarcastic, but more pitiful remarks. I told him how my sister was doing, he had a story about his run in with a neighbor we both knew. I recommend a show to him which he declines.
"I'm not watching that it sounds dumb." Katsuki scoffed.
"You said that about the last show I recommended to you and now you update me when there's a new episode coming out." I defended myself.
