Chapter 45

"God, recently it's been nothing but fights between gangsters and thugs and the like!" Fat Gum complained. "Can't help if it makes me hungry!"

Finally our internships started. Kiri and I had now joined Fat Gum and Tamaki patrolling the streets. It felt good to finally be able to get outside again.

"That's the deal here, so the hero agencies want them some peeps packin' brute force. You're plum perfect for the job, Red Riot and Temporis!" Fat Gum said.

"Glad to be of service!" Kirishima said.

"Of course!" I added.

"Fourth Kind wasn't taking any applications, so
thank you for taking me in." Kirishima said. He was in a similar situation as most people who's workplace experience either weren't taking anyone or weren't eligible.

"I wouldn't have missed an opportunity like this for the world. Thanks for having me." I smiled.

"You both are very eager." Fat Gum laughed.

"If Mirio could've been here." Tamaki mumbled. "I shudder to think how hard you would have glomped on him."

"Oh come now." I sucked my teeth.

"Now if Tamaki could just do something about that weak will of his, he'd be a real talent!" Fat Gum announced.

"That's just putting more pressure on me! Leading me even lower than before!" Tamaki retaliated as he put his hands to his head.  "This is what it's always like. This man scouted me just to harass me. This is power harassment, I tell you! I wanna go home."

"You always want to go home." I laughed a bit. "Cheer up, you were scouted for a reason. A good one."

"I'm sure he's just encouraging you! That's how I heard it, anyway." Kirishima shrugged.

"I'll never be as positive and forward-facing as
you or Mirio." Tamaki muttered again.

"I'm not all that much either," Kirishima admitted. "When everyone was in danger, there was so much I couldn't do. Compared to the rest of my class, I'm not as strong or experienced. That's why I want to fill in the gap so I'm at least able to stand alongside them!"

"A bunch of bull is all I'm hearing. From the two of you. You both compare yourselves so much you don't realize what you can truly do." I put my hands on my hips.

"Are there a bunch of negative Nancy's over here?" Fat Gum asked.

"Somebody, quick!! A fight broke loose!!" I whipped my head around and saw a group of thugs running in our direction. When I turned to my teammates they were watching the same thing.

"Speak of the devil." Fat Gum said.

"We're splitting up for now!" one of the thugs yelled to the others.

"Oh no you ain't!" Fat Gum announced. He went to stand in their way and they ran right into him.

"It's Fat!" one of them yelled. "This is bad. We're gonna sink into him!"

"Chew on some of this fat while I sink your enterprise!" Fat Gum laughed.

One of the them used his quirk to stretch his body into a thin line and slip past the hero.
"What the- You're a spin off Edgeshot with that quirk." Fat Gum said.

I saw Tamaki next to me raise his hand. His fingers turned into tentacles that wrapped around the thug that was running, stopping him immediately.

"What's with you, ya octopus?!" the thug screamed while trying to untangle himself.

"Such hurtful words..." Tamaki sighed.

"He didn't mean it like that!" Kirishima quickly responded. "He's just calling it as he sees it! He's not calling you names!"
