"You promised an explanation." Katsuki demanded the day before we went back to school. He was standing at my front door with his arms crossed.

"I know I did but I didn't mean you needed to show up on my front step. I said not at my house because my parents are already pissed and I came up with some excuse that just barely got myself out of trouble. I'll meet you in the park in 15." I said slightly through my teeth. I then closed the door on him and headed upstairs.

I peaked inside the dining room to see my mom on a business call.

Thank god she didn't hear that.

I grabbed a water for "why I went downstairs." As I crossed the dining room I mouthed to her that I was going to take a nap or something. She just waved me off to leave her be. Her work calls could last up to 2 hours, my dads last for at least 3. I knew I had time to spare but I wanted to make sure she didn't expect to hear me.

I teleported outside and headed to the park in between me and Katsuki's house.

"You're already here? I thought I had like 5 minutes to spare." I said seeing him at a bench.

"I waited here instead of going anywhere." He explained. "Now would you mind telling me?"

I told my parents a complete lie, one that I would probably tell the press or people that I didn't know too well, but with Katsuki I had to only slightly bend the truth. I trusted him to tell him everything, but I couldn't explain Shoto's point of view because that's all pretty private information that I don't feel comfortable sharing on my own accord.

"Basically, my quirk had made me fatigued and I knew that I wouldn't have been able to fight for much longer. I also knew that backing out would be better than pushing myself too far." I started.

"That's not all." He pointed out crossing his arms.

"I also ran into a few people I knew, that's why I was so pissed off. They said a few things along the lines of they expect me to win, so in a petty rage I backed out. In fact Shoto was going to do the same but I wanted to do it instead of him." I explained trying to make it as simple as possible.

"Icy hot? What the hell does he have anything to do with it?!" He asked.

I sighed and thought for a while. "When people- place bets on you...and they are people who never...believed in you- and are only betting on you now because you're in the spotlight. You want them to lose." I tried to make up a metaphor for him to understand.

He sat there for a while. "I get it, but I don't."

"I'm not expecting you to understand, I just want you to understand where I'm coming from." I averted eye contact with him.

"Obviously I'd try to understand that." He laughs and punches my arm.

"What you should understand is you need to be nicer to people." I mentioned under my breath.

"I AM NICE!" He yelled.

I just sat and blinked at him.

"Look I'll hear you out on that explanation but I'm not going to hear shit about my behavior." He laughed.

"Sadly. But there's no shame in at least trying," I sighed.

We hang out at the park for a while, maybe an hour until I realize I had to go back soon.

"Let me walk you back to your house." I said.

"No, I'll just go to yours." He said.

"I'm the one with the teleportation quirk who has to sneak back into her house anyway, I'm walking to yours." I insisted.
