"Meredith Grey-Montgomery" Meredith answers Ellis as she finished closing the patient.

Hearing this Ellis was taken aback.  Meredith? Could this be my daughter?

Meredith just smiled at the two attendings and went to scrub out. Addison noticed that Ellis was suddenly quiet.

"Dr. Grey?" Addison says trying to catch her attention. "Ye-Yes? oh right, Uhm- let's scrub out now, shall we?" Ellis says snapping back to reality. Addison nodded and was curious as to why she suddenly had a change in mood.

It couldn't have been her. Why is she here?

-------------------------------------------------------

Ellis had to postpone the intern screening to fill in for Webber. Once she got back they continued, and Ellis had her choices.

"We ALL have to go?" Meredith whined as Amelia and Christina dragged her back to the auditorium.

"Yeah Chief's orders," Christina says sternly. "Besides wouldn't you want to come to cheer us on as Dr. Grey announces our names for that surgery?" Amelia adds as they take their seats. Meredith just rolls her eyes and reads the medical journal she was still able to snatch before she was kidnapped to the auditorium.

"So I have decided on who will be joining Dr. Webber, Dr. Bailey, and Myself in the groundbreaking surgery tomorrow," Ellis calls out to all the interns standing before her catching everyone's reaction except Meredith's because she was 100% sure she wouldn't get it because she didn't try out.

"First intern, Yang." Some cheered and some booed. "Why are you all acting surprised?" Christina giggled and both Meredith and Amelia rolled their eyes.

"Second, Grey-Montgomery"

As her name was called there were many surprised faces and protests.

"WHAT!?" Amelia yells looking at Meredith who's right beside her. "What?" Meredith looks at Amelia confused as to why she was looking at her like that. "What do you mean what? Dr. Grey just said Grey-Montgomery, and last time I checked that was you." Christina says with the same shocked expression everybody else had. "WHAT!?" Meredith realizes now why everyone was staring at her.

"You know, I should've seen this coming. No way Meredith will pass up on an opportunity like this." Amelia says now calming down. "But I-" Meredith tried speaking but Amelia butts in. "Well played my friend, well played. You win this one, Congratulations!" Amelia says as she pulls Mer into a hug. "Thank you? But I didn't eve-" And again, she was interrupted by Dr. Webber.

"Would the two lucky interns please proceed to radiology for scans? As for the rest of you, Get back to work!" Webber yells out to the audience.

------------------------------------------------

Christina and Meredith did all the needed scans and preparations. When they finally finished, Christina went on her way to find some dinner but Meredith said she'll stay behind to check if they missed anything. Christina just nodded and went on her way.

Meredith triple-checked everything and decided to head over to the attendings' lounge to look for Dr. Grey because she thought there must be some kind of mistake with the screening.

"Dr. Grey, may I speak to you for a moment?" Meredith asks entering the lounge. Ellis said nothing and just gestured for her to come in.

"You see Dr. Grey, I think there was some kind of mistake regarding your intern screening. You see, I never did the assessment in the first place, that's why I'm just confused as to how I was chosen." Meredith reasoned.

"But I did assess you today. In the OR you did an impeccable job that I could've mistaken you for an attending if not for your scrubs." Ellis replied.

Meredith couldn't find a counter to her comment so she just nods and stood up to head to the door. "Meredith?" Ellis calls out before she leaves. Meredith was surprised as to why she was using her name, but she just thought she might've gotten tired of saying the long last name that she had. "Yes, Dr. Grey?"

Ellis was ready to tell her the truth but later chickens out. "It's good seeing you again" Meredith smiled but she was even more confused now when she left.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Addison, Amelia, and Christina decided to celebrate at Joe's Bar before their big surgery tomorrow.

"Hey Mer, you've been acting weird all day, what's up with you?" Addison approaches her sister while Christina and Amelia played darts. "Addie, what do you know about my mother?" Addison's face became all serious in just seconds. She knew something was wrong because Meredith has never once asked about her Mother. "Mer what happened?" Addison asks now concerned. "Could you just answer the question, Addison?" Meredith sternly says as she downed two more shots of Tequila. Addison hesitated but proceeded to tell her. "I don't know much actually, the captain just explained that your mother chose to give you up and his lawyers did all the paperwork about giving full custody to him, but other than that, nothing not even a name."

"She gave me up?" Meredith looks at her glass of water which she had to switch to because she still had that surgery tomorrow. "Yes but I think that was the best decision she's ever made because look where it got you." Addie tries reassuring her while simultaneously trying to rethink all the events of today, then that's where it hit her. Dr. Ellis Grey. How did she miss this?

"Oh Mer, you don't think Dr. Grey is your mother, do you?" Addie says now holding her chin up to look her in the eyes. "I mean it's not impossible, I know I hardly remember it but I've been hung up on the thought all day. And to add to my confusion, she said 'it was nice to see you again' when we saw each other just a few hours ago and who says that to a person you barely knew? What if she was my Mother Addie? Will knowing the truth make a difference in my life?" Meredith rants her eyes already twinkly as she was about to cry.

Addison couldn't think of anything else to say so she just pulled Mer into the warmest hug as Meredith tried pulling her tears.
