Chapter 25

"Meredith Catherine Grey Montgomery, I see you've been busy, " Meredith hears a very familiar voice enter her room.

"Well, life decided to make me busy Bizzy," Meredith says to the closest thing she had to a mother growing up.

"What time is your surgery scheduled?" The captain tries making conversation,

"Addie says Derek will try to remove the tumor later this afternoon," Meredith says not making eye contact with her father.

"Why don't I go check in with Addison and Derek while the two of you catch up?" Bizzy steps out of the room leaving the two in a very awkward position.

"So, How have you been Mer-Mer?"

"Ellis Grey is my mother?" She asks in a very low tone.

The captain was left speechless and looked away from Meredith.

"Yeah, I heard you two talking the other day down at the lobby. Then I was engaged, found out my fiancé was a douche, got into a car accident, missed two weeks of work, and the cherry on top? I found out that my cancer made its way back into my life once more. But you know other than that? I'm completely and utterly FINE," She snaps wiping a tear that slipped out from her eye.

"You know what the funny thing is? I didn't want to know my mother and the minute I did my life turns to shambles,"

"I'm sorry things turned out that way honey, but just so you know, this whole thing about your mother wasn't a secret but more of a piece of information that you didn't need," The captain says now taking a seat beside her bed. "Nonetheless, I should've told you, and I'm sorry,"

Meredith looked at her father and didn't know what to say. This whole thing has gotten too complicated too fast. All she wanted was to make everything stop.

The captain was about to speak up again when Amelia and Bailey came knocking in.

"I'm sorry are we interrupting? It's just that Meredith has to be taken to pre-op" Bailey asks,

"Not at all, pls, go ahead," The Captain says but not before shooting Meredith one more apologetic look.

"Dr. Bailey?" Miranda turns to face Meredith, as they wheel her to the operating room.

"If things go sideways, I need you to look after Addie and Amy ok?" Meredith says bluntly.

"Addie always seems to have together all the time, but when she snaps it will get the best of her, and Amy she would deal with this in all the wrong ways so- pls- I am asking you to look after them," On the verge of tearing up, Meredith looks at her straight in the eye.

"I wouldn't need to do anything Montgomery because you are leaving this O.R. Alive and tumor-free," Bailey retorts.

"Dr. Bailey- I need you to promise pls-"

"Fine, but mark my words, Meredith, if you ever tried stepping into the welcoming light I'll come to get you back myself,"

"Ok everybody, It's a beautiful day to save lives. Let's have some fun," Derek says before starting the surgery.

Up in the gallery, Addison, Amelia, Christina, and Mark, sit patiently looking down at the surgery.

"How did I not see this?" Addie says a little too loudly.

"We all didn't" Christina replies.

"She'll get through this right? I don't know if I would go on living without her," Amelia says still looking at the surgery, "We've been best friends since we were 9, we did everything together,"

Mark couldn't handle it anymore and got up to leave the room with Christina following behind him.

"I'm in love with her Yang. Like stupidly madly in love with her," He says in a screaming low whispery tone. "What am I going to do if she doesn't pull through? I will never be able to tell her any of that," Christina just stares at him sympathetically.

"Meredith didn't like me the first time we met," Derek blurts out. "She was so protective of Addie. One time, I even thought that we would split up because of her disapproval,"

"She loves her family so much so that she compromises herself in the process," Bailey says shaking her head.

The monitor starts beeping.

"What's that?"

"Pressure is up. Stats are dropping," A nurse announces.

"What's happening? Nothing is going on up here," Derek checks the area where he's operating.

"Heart rates up, she's going into cardiac arrest," Bailey announces frantically.

And then Meredith flatlines-
