And then Meredith flatlines-

"What happened in there?" Addison says rushing into them as both Derek and Bailey head out of the scrub room.

"There is a reason why family stay in the waiting room," Bailey mumbles.

"Miranda-"

"It's too soon to tell, but she's alive Addie. She arrested for 2 minutes so her brain function might've been affected. We'll know more once she wakes up," Derek says trying to reassure his wife.

"That's if she does wakes up-" Amelia mutters a little too loudly,

"No, stop it Amy. She's gonna be fine. My sister will be just fine." Addie scolds.

"Again, it's too soon to tell, but I really hope your right Addie," Derek goes to comfort his wife who was now siting on one of the empty hospital beds.

2 weeks since Meredith's surgery

Meredith has yet to wake up from her surgery. Everyday she gets visits from each of her family members. Of course, Addison and Amelia were her constant watchers.

"Hey, so I've got some news. I got to scrub in with Derek for an emergency craniotomy for this patient who got 13 nails lodged into his forehead. But that wasn't the best part, he was activitely talking and walking when he came in to the E.R." Amelia drops her voice at the last statement, seeing as it was kind of a touchy subject with the state her best friend was in. "Which is why I know you could get through this. If some guy could have 13 nails in the head and still be alive, you most certainly can be too,"

She looks around if there was anyone watching. She takes out a small baggie out from her labcoat, revealing a few grams of Oxy. "I'm trying extremely hard not to take these Mer, this has been in my pocket since the day I found out you needed surgery," She almost sobs. "I can't do any of these without you Mer. I need you to wake up please,"

Amelia tries holding an unconscious Mer's hand to look for any sign of waking. To her dismay, nothing."

1 month

"It's been a month Addie-" Richard says in sadly,

"No Richard. I'm not giving up. Her stats are great, scans look good, and her mm seems to be responding well to treatment," Addie rambles outside Meredith's room.

Before her surgery, Meredith needed to assign a power of attorney. Seems like it was a no-brainer to pick Addison, so she did just that.

"Then why the hell isn't she waking up?" Archer says in an annoyed tone.

Everyone just stayed silent and stared into the room waiting for some kind of miracle. That lasted until they were paged to their respective consults.

Later that day

"So I'm with you today," Mark enters Meredith's room,

"Derek and I had to convince Addie to go home for the night, so we'll be expecting a lot of phone calls tonight," He says to Meredith's sleeping state. "It's been real lonely without you here Montinette. No one knows me as well as you do in the O.R."

"I had Stevens yesterday and we almost blew a boob job just caused she was distracted," He rants then stay silent. "I also miss you Meredith, not just at work but-- Look, I know we left things like that. The truth is I love you Mer, in every way I thought I could ever love someone. You make me better. You make me see a life for myself that I just laughed at before I met you. Bottomline is, Meredith I love you. So would you please just wake up, so I could spend the rest of my life saying that to you?" Mark says stern and slightly teary eyed and looked up to see no change. He just sighs head to the bathroom to freshen up.

He heard the monitors beeping and quickly rushed out to dial the phone.

*****

"I told you I shouldn't have gone home. What happened? Mark why aren't you talking!?" Addison says frantically rushing into her sister's room.

"Just look." Mark says pointing at the window,

"Hey Addie"
